Win a gift box of sustainable products from Steamer Trading Cookshop *closed*
You know me, I love anything sustainable or eco-friendly. My obsession for a while has been searching for the perfect reusable bottle. I tend to take one everywhere with me: in the car, in my bag if I’m out for the day, and definitely when I’m travelling (although it was a massive fail in China as you can’t drink the water and there are very few water fountains). I recently found my dream bottle (a rose gold beauty) at one of my favourite online shops, Steamer Trading Cookshop. Steamer not only do all sorts of amazing cookware (the Nordic Ware! be still my beating heart), but they also sell a ton of eco-friendly items too, and they’ve very kindly offered to give away a range of their products to one lucky reader. Fancy the chance to win a hamper of sustainable products from Steamer Trading Cookshop? Read on!
Now back to that bottle. My rose gold, double walled stainless steel bottle is made by a brand called Built. It’s not just a bottle, oh no, but a flask that keeps cold things cold for 24 hours and hot things hot too (for six hours!). It’s got a simple push-on, leak proof lid (no more trying to unscrew a lid one-handed) and it’s not too heavy either. There will be one of these beauties in the hamper (it might be a different colour), along with a selection of brilliant eco-friendly products, selected especially for you.

The hamper also contains these incredibly clever Stasher reusable food bags (I don’t know about you, but one of the hardest things to replace in the kitchen are those plastic freezer bags - one you’ve opened things like ham and cheese, it’s incredibly difficult to keep them fresh and although lidded boxes are fine, they’re quite bulky). These bags are 100% silicone, plastic free, reusable and dishwasher proof - and there’s a couple of different sizes in the hamper for you to try.

Another of my eco nightmares are straws. I’m not a fan anyway, but if you really need to use a strawer, then these reusable stainless steel ones are amazing. And if you’re worried about how to keep them clean, the kit includes a little cleaning brush too. Clever stuff!

You’ll also find a handy, 100% BPA Free reusable spork, a Stojo collapsible travel mug, and you can wave goodbye to your pesky roll of cling film as there’s some clever Bee’s Wrap beeswax reusable food wrap for you to try too, handmade by infusing organic cotton with beeswax, organic jojoba oil and tree resin - I’ve got some of this too and can’t wait to try it. Apparently you just wash them in cold water and reuse over and over again.

this year were using brown paper to wrap presents, i recycle more and i completely stopped using single use carrier bags
Hi Monika. I’m so sorry, this competition closed this morning at 9am x
I am trying to be more sustainable by choosing fruit and veg without plastic packaging and ditching the carrier bags where possible
Hi Emily. Thanks so much for commenting. I’m so sorry, this competition has now closed x
We use our own coffee mugs and they go everywhere with us. We also have our own metal knife, fork and spoon which are also carried in my bag. I’ve just bought fabric from a charity shop to make napkins and little bags to carry them in. The 3 of us also have our own metal water bottles, which also get taken everywhere. Have just gone back to bar soap instead of liquid soap and once the shower gel runs out am going to go back to bar soap for showering. We take our own canvas bags shopping. I am also a cardmaker and recycle everything I can when making cards. This year we are going to use brown paper to wrap the Christmas paper and tie with bright ribbon. Next year I am going to use fabric to make bags to pack the presents in and then they can be used each year. Youngest has a fabric advent calender and he has small chocolates in them. Always on the look out for new ideas to reuse and recycle products. Your prize looks great and would be other products that would be in daily use.
I recycle what I can and try to reuse butter tubs and jars for crafting or storing baked goodies. I like paper straws.
I am lovely the eco friendly push and have stopped using bottled shampoo and conditioner as a start to help reduce plastic wastage.
I buy local fruit and veg from my garden centre which doesn’t have packaging!
I also eat a vegan diet which is super sustainable! I agree - paper straws are weird, I’m happy without a straw!
I recycle everything I can and try to use as little plastic as possible, a great tip is that any plastic bags, fruit and veg bags, you know.. the stretchy type…well, most Sainsbury’s stores have a recycle point for them! I didn’t know until recently.
We recycle and have food waste bin as well. We plan our meals and shop from a list to keep food waste to virtually nothing.
we recycle whatever we can in the bins
At work they’ve removed all plastic cups, so we’re on the re-useable water bottles. It’s made us think more about the little things we can change. I no longer use throw away plastic cutlery at work, always bringing in cutlery instead.
We’ve recycled wrapping paper and gift boxes from last year so that we aren’t buying more paper 🙂 We’re also going to try cloth wrapping 🙂
We have always recycled and I use plastic lunchboxes in the freezer rather than freezer bags so they last. I also try and reuse plastic pots for planters or paint trays for the kids.
I recycle what I can and try and use other products like soap instead of shower gel in bottles .
We have milk in glass bottles, recycle and try to be as plastic free as possible
I do what I can by:
Recycling anything possible
reusing packaging where I can (save glass jars. reuse plastic bread bags for storing in fridge or as lunch bags)
Compost food waste
70% of my clothes/shoes/handbags are from charity shops and I send clothes to either charity shops or recycling centres.
Ride my bike to work and drive only when necessary.
we recycle everything we can, use cloth bags we also have stainless steel straws.
Trying to reduce plastic and food waste
I recycle what ever I can. Come Christmas time I use a tree that was purchased over thirty years ago and most of the decorations are as old - many of them made of wood or knitted by my mother. In respect to keeping my house running I have become adept at knowing what to keep and use as spare parts and what to recycle at the local recycling site.
I recycle everything I can - in the correct bins. Old clothes and toys go to the Charity shops. Never waste food, only buy what I need. Avoid takeaways which avoids the takeaway packaging.
Yes I am so keen to try and be more eco-friendly wherever I can. I’m already an avid recycler (not a scrap of paper escapes being recycled) and I never use plastic straws when going out for the evening. But I really want to do more, this bundle looks brilliant!
Well we do try! We pass on all our clothes as my children are the eldest of the cousins so that’s good! I love seeing my little nieces and nephews in my children’s clothes. We do recycle everything that you can. I use tubs to put the kids’ sandwiches in rather than sandwich bags. They have water in aluminium flasks for school. I think we are quite mindful to be honest.
We Use the council recycling bins and take as little as possible plastic out of the shops
I am trying to reduce single use plastic, reducing my use of fossil fuels. Recently I have starting making my own reusable shopping bags (and for the family), using soap bars instead of shower gel etc and I use cut up towels as dishclothes.
One of the few positives of having a very lmited income is that you are forced to reuse and recycle! Really we’re going back to what my grandparents did, buy local produce in season, make sure each meal includes leftovers from the previous, take a flask with drinks from home etc
I have planted my own Christmas tree this year instead of buying one and hopefully in a few years we will be able to decorate it.
I certainly try to be eco friendly iin my life. It does being in an eco-friendly house - new build, ground source heat pup, solar panels, cook fro scratch, veg plots, compost heap, water butts, try to use the local high street shops and cut down packaging,,No food waste etc.
I plan meals to reduce any food waste. We get a lot of hand me down clothes for our children as a lot is like new. We are also trying to cut down on plastic “stuff” toys etc it’s everywhere
I recycle and upcycle everything I can. Trouble is that makes me a real hoarder as I always think I can use things for something else at some stage
I recycle and hand all my little girls clothes on to her friend. We make and grow what we can
We do lots of recycling in our house
I grow my own veg or mostly buy seasonal and local. Most of the clothes I buy are second hand. I use a menstrual cup, metal razor and bamboo toothbrush. I also make a lot of my own beauty and household cleaning products and buy solid deodorant and shampoo.
reuse everything and buy sll clothes second hand
Recycling all I can, bring my own fabric bags when shopping, changed from shop nappies to eco-friendly ones, using paper straws, a reusable coffee cup and have started a compost heap for all food waste
I am trying very hard to recycle everything possible. I keep all the coffee grounds, tea leaves and peelings from veg and fruit for the compost bin and save cardboard for all sorts of uses. I have even knitted a shopping bag from old plastic bags and it creates a great deal of interest when I go out shopping with it!
What a brilliant prize! I’m trying to do my bit by recycling what I can, using reusable items as much as possible, only using lights I need at the time and trying to buy produce in season.
I recycle everything we can even if it means remembering to take things places such as batteries to the supermarket, or print cartridges to work. I’m using biodegradable nappies at least half the time and feel terrible that I don’t all the time but we have limited income. I’m also trying to walk more and drive less.
I reuse recycle buy second hand make do and mend and try not to use too many of the planets resources
We have our own compost heap.. grow our own produce & are trying really hard to avoid as much plastic as we can!
Using degradable or reusable cups and avoiding pre packaged ready meals. We also re-use cloth sacks at Christmas to avoid too much wrapping paper.
Growing our own fruit and veg to reduce our carbon footprint and use of packaging!
I recycle as much as I can and compost vegetable waste.I grow a lot of my own vegetables on my allotment, and if I buy vegetables and fruit I go to our local market , where everything is loose or in paper bags so that massively reduces packaging. I would love to try the beeswax wraps.
Never thought about using reusable freezer bags - that’s a great tip!
I try hard to live by the ‘reduce reuse recycle’ philosophy which is also becoming instilled in my children.
I hate waste and am doing my best. I pass on all the kids clothes, either to friends or the rag bag, we try never to throw out any food. (Random leftovers anyone!) We all have water bottles but I am really struggling without freezer bags. I hate putting food in plastic boxes. They seem to absorb smells. I use glass bowls when I can but that’s not always practical!
Nicola you should definitely try those Stasher bags - they’re SO good - they’re like thick, silicone versions of freezer bags with a really simple press closure. I miss freezer bags too but these have been a revelation! The 450ml is about the right size for a large block of cheese or a sandwich, but they do bigger ones too x
I do try, sometimes more successfully than others, I walk instead of using the bus, I sort my recycling and I am a dab hand at using up leftover food
I’m doing my best! I recycle and use reusable rather than single use products whenever I can. My latest switch was to using loose tea and a reusable metal tea ball rather than paper tea bags
I recycle everything I can. I also have a water bottle that I can use time and time again. I also try not to buy prepacked fruit at the supermarket. Every little thing I an do to help I do.
I upcycle everything I can
We have really been thinking hard about this - we uses our own bags and reusable water bottles and coffee mugs which I have now got into the habit of picking up. We still have plastic straws at home from years ago but I have got into the habit of using a few and then dishwashing them which I think is better than paper straws as we just keep using them.
Those stasher reusable food bags sound absolutely amazing!! I always carry a reusable carrier bag and my reusable coffee cup with me in my handbag, just that small change in my life, remembering to take them, has saved loads of single use plastic I’m sure. I also don’t drive, which keeps me fitter and is great for the planet.
I always have a foldable bag in my handbag for shopping s9 I can always say NO to plastic bags, wherever in the world I am. Hubby calls it my “granny bag” but I love it. Everyone should have one.
The best thing you can do for the environment is not to have any children.
I have a reusable coffee cup that I use in
I try to recycle everything I can, I even bring bottles and packaging home to put in the recycling bin instead of putting It in a normal bin
I recycle but not much else yet.
I recycle whatever I can and avoid buying things in plastic wherever possible
I’ve even switched to bamboo toothbrushes. Why you can buy these in supermarkets is beyond me.
Only buy fruit and veg without plastic packaging.
I am an avid recycler and upcycler at home, keen to give things away to keep them in good use. Its easy to make daily or weekly changes such as using a refillable drinks cup or always having boxes/bags ready to reuse.
I try and buy things with as little or no packaging as possible and I recycle all I can
I use a re usable coffee cup ☕️
Get the parents to cook so I don’t have to
No more bottled water buying for us (our new fridge has a water dispenser), metal straws and loose fruit and veg best we can.
I have rescued six chickens so they eat all the fruit and veg peelings and any waste food as well as clearing the garden of weeds and slugs, also get lovely fresh eggs every morning
Oohh, this looks fab!! I’m already a convert to the Beeswax wraps. They’re brilliant & really good at keeping fresh herbs fresh in the fridge. Did you know you can use them as firelighters when they wear out.
Making up cleaning solutions from bulk size bottles help reduce plastic.
Meal planning & prep to save waste. Those reusable freezer bags sound ideal, Tupperware is a bit bulky.
I’m also a bit of a nag at work. Introduced a recycle bin in the staff room.
Great offer Becky.
Oh really? I’m definitely going to give them a go. Thanks! Do you have any problem keeping them clean? I just wondered because you can only wash in cool water x
Yes only cold water and soap. But you can put them in a warm oven, about 140, with the door open, for 5 minutes and they remelt, makes them as good as new. They are brilliant
I’m trying to buy in bulk so that I use less packaging and have my own re-usable coffe cup that I carry around with me. Plus I always have a canvas tote so that I don’t use plastic bags in store.
We love recycling. We don’t have a garden but we are lucky that we can chuck everything in recycling bin. Personally I love the new trend for water bottles
were trying very hard to stop using so much plastic
We’re on re-usable hot drinks and cold drinks bottles and cups, steel straws - the next thing we want to cut out is face wipes and other disposables!
I agree with you about paper straws. They last all of 10 seconds with my granddaughter and then they are useless, unless you have a pair of scissors. I am trying to introduce metal straws which are far better.
Yes! They’re so annoying. I love the fact that you get a tiny little brush with these straws so you can keep them clean too x
don’t buy bottled water anymore, tap water is just as good
I spend a lot of time recycling all the household waste that I can
I’m trying to use more of this kind of thing instead of recycling. Having items like this makes it a whole lot easier - and nicer!
What a fabulous prize. I try my best to recycle and reuse as much as possible- we all should and I’m proud that my 2 young children are very aware that the least in the landfill bin, the better and they know what they can do to help. (We just need to find local pigs for our food waste). Wishing everyone luck x
we recycle as much as possible but still plenty you cant yet
I always use my travel cup for takeaway coffee, recycle everything I can - either kerbside or at the tip. Any left over veg is fed to the chickens or the cows and I rarely use cling film or tin foil. Little changes are simple but can make a huge difference. We only have a third of a black bin for landfill. I also pick classic clothes and wear them forever
I am very passionate about recycling and re-using and adapting everyday items where possible
I’m with you on this one, so important! We have our milk delivered in glass bottles which makes a huge difference to our recycling box!
Wish I could find someone local to do this, Jill!
Would love to win this. I have a wormery outside where I recycle all food waste. The compost from this goes straight onto my allotment where I grow all my own vegetables. Have definitely cut back on plastic bags/containers from the supermarket. Thanks for sharing this prize.
Amazing offer! I’ve made some beeswax wraps of my own using pretty leftover fabric and wax from our own bees. It’s fab to wrap sandwiches and to keep cheese fresh in the fridge! xx
I recycle or reuse everything that I possibly can. I even recycle my used teabags. The tea leaves go on the garden and the bags get turned into little fabric sheets for making books or for art and embroidery projects.
Would love that box! I’m buying sustainable loo rolls, recycling demon, not putting fruit and veg in plastic in supermarket! Trying to buy in season
Yasssssss to this ? We Gift all our meal prep Veg peelings to the local farm who feed them to the pigs and goats etc . We ask customers to re use there containers or donate to local schools who can re use them .All our Veg is delivered locally and we give the box’s back so they can re use them ? just a few things but we feel we are helping !!!!
