It’s a happy coincidence that it’s Paddy’s Day today, but honestly, I was already planning a green roundup, I promise! As long as you ignore the rumours of a return to -3 degree temperatures this weekend, there are certainly signs that spring is well and truly on the way, and what better way to celebrate than introducing a few fresh, spring greens into your wardrobe.
Last week, I was lucky enough to be invited to Skye Gyngell’s gorgeous (and aptly named) Spring restaurant at Somerset House in London for the prettiest of breakfasts to celebrate the launch of the new hush spring 2018 collection. With fresh petal colours, delicate prints and new twists on some of my favourite pieces, I could very easily have packed the whole lot up and taken it home with me. Read on for a look at that beautiful breakfast and a peek at some of the pieces that caught my eye.
Have you worked out your personal style? It’s a tough one. I think by now, in my mid-forties, I’ve kind of sorted out roughly what suits me and what doesn’t: I like a mostly minimalist style in a palette of grey, black and white, and I tend to stick to classic styles, with the odd bit of leopard thrown in for good measure. What if, though, you could have access to your own personal stylist? Would you be interested in maybe shaking up your look? I’d love to be braver, especially at Christmas! I was intrigued and delighted to be invited to try Tuesday from M&S, a new, free, personal styling service that aims to provide style inspiration (with no obligation to buy).
This week saw the announcement of the new hush autumn 17 collection and it really is a gorgeous one. I’ve seen them go from quite a niche online company to wandering the racks of their clothes in John Lewis like a proud mama, and I continue to love everything about their relaxed, grown up style. I absolutely love it when a new season collection lands and it’s no secret that autumn’s my favourite: all those snuggly jumpers, muted colours and soft fabrics make me so happy. Let’s face it, our summer’s been pretty nonexistent, hasn’t it? During our dog walks recently (yup, in wellies and rainwear), we’ve picked handfuls of blackberries for crumble, and the crabapples and sloes are dotting the hedgerows already… It’s like mother nature wants us all to forget it ever happened and move straight on to autumn. And honestly? At this stage, I’m pretty happy with that.
I know I’m always ridiculously excited about sharing my weekend wishlist items with you, but this one really is a beauty: imagine your dream dress: just boho enough to wear on your holidays (I’m thinking uber cool beach cocktails in Ibiza, but insert your own daydream here), just chilled enough to wear for a summer party, and just laid-back luxe enough to wear to a wedding. Basically the dramatic dress of dreams. And where will you find this wonder? Why, Anthropologie of course – maybe not your first stop for online clothes shopping, but actually a complete treasure trove of gorgeous pieces.
I’m such a monochrome shopper it’s not even right. Absolutely everything I purchase (apart from denim) is black, white, or grey, so my current obsession with everything nude and blush has kind of caught me by surprise. Although, I guess nude is a neutral, so by rights my wardrobe should all still fit together, no?
When you try to focus on keeping a relatively minimalist wardrobe full of good quality classics, the new season can always be a bit of a challenge. I have to really keep myself (and my wallet) in check, especially faced with all the pretty new spring colours and shapes. Still, there’s no harm in a bit of window shopping, and what better way of getting my fashion fix than sharing all my faves with you? Here are a few lovely spring bits that are definitely being added to my thoughtful spending list:
I’ve been meaning to tell you about these gorgeous items for a while now, but time – and lots and lots of other stuff that I also desperately needed to tell you about – got in the way! If you’re on Instagram, you’re bound to have noticed the fabulous Selfish Mother range. Created by Molly Gunn, of selfishmother.com fame, the t-shirts, sweatshirts and other items all raise money for various charities. I’ve always loved the ‘Mama’ t-shirt, and have spotted it on quite a few celebrities too!
So a while back, when I was telling you about Christmas in July, I mentioned that I’d bumped into the lovely guys from hush homewear at the John Lewis Christmas event, where they were celebrating their new partnership (hush concessions will be opening in the Birmingham, Chelmsford, Leeds, Oxford Street and Peter Jones stores) and caught a sneaky peek of the new hush autumn 2016 collection. Today, though, there’s even more excitement as it’s time to get a proper look at the gorgeousness. Hurrah! Mr E and I were only saying the other day that it seems weird, given the current scorchio weather, that there are blackberries on the bushes and machines in the fields finishing the harvest. I don’t feel like I’m properly done with summer yet, but then I look at all the lovely new collections and think that maybe it will be nice when autumn arrives after all!
Have you ever been in Oliver Bonas before? Oh my god, we came across one in Leeds: I recognised the name because I remember a gorgeous flatlay from one of my faves, lovely Amanda featuring a funky pineapple from there and I thought we should pop in. I literally loved everything in there! As Laura pointed out, all the colours are really me: soft corals, minty greens, denim blues… and the homeware stuff is gorgeous too. Totally off topic for a cutest summer holiday wishlist roundup but look, I bought a pineapple!
Last year, Boden released a limited, special edition collection called Boden ICONS. The capsule collection of cool British premium items was snapped up quickly, so I was delighted to see it back again this year. I’d seen little snippets online but the full collection is utterly breathtaking. If you want one of the pieces, flex that credit card and get over to Boden’s website stat. These pieces won’t last long. Read more
I’ve had SUCH a busy week. Oh, I’m absolutely not moaning – who else gets to spend their days chatting on the radio and talking to wonderful, interesting people about the job that they love? I feel like the luckiest girl in the world, especially as it’s my birthday tomorrow and the Easter long weekend! And all this lovely stuff has put me in the mood for a bit of shopping. I’m loving all the hush spring brights AND they’ve got 10% off (enter EASTER16 at the checkout) and a free bar of delicious hush chocolate if you order (over £30) over the Easter weekend. What’s not to love? Here are my picks of their most beautiful must-haves to brighten your spring wardrobe:
I really wanted to pop out on Tuesday morning, but I knew that hush were about to unveil a little taster of their new SS16 collection and I just couldn’t bring myself to leave without seeing it! I’m away next week so I’m going to miss the unveiling of the main collection, but I promise to update you when I come back. Happily, this little taster is now online and I’m so glad I waited in – there are some really delicious things there, including soft, summer cashmere in delicious blush pinks and denim blues, some buttery soft leather loveliness and some fabulous denim separates too. Here are my faves:
Firstly, and slightly off topic – a word about M&S. Sali Hughes recently wrote an article about them in The Pool, and it’s spot on. What a shame, shame, shame. So much potential, but our local ones (Hemel Hempstead and Aylesbury) are packed with that awful, gaudy Per Una stuff, terrible polyester trousers and dreadful old lady shoes. Do give it a read. I bet you’ll be nodding along just like I was. Anyhoo, off to Boden… I love the sales. I really, really love the sales, and I’ve spent far too much money on little basics and a few nice things for summer. But when all the lovely new spring stuff starts to come in, it’s just so exciting! I thought I’d share with you the bits and bobs that got the corners of the pages turned down. You know, just in case…
The Christmas shopping has begun in earnest, so I was delighted to discover a gorgeous new website that’s going to be verrrry handy indeed. Join up and tell Lyst your favourite shops and brands, and you can see them all in one place. Once you’re logged in, you choose which brands and shops you want to follow, save items to buy later and even flag items so Lyst will let you know when they’re on sale – genius! There are items from designer brands like JBrand, Gucci and Michael Kors and retailers like Zara, Selfridges, Asos, Topshop, John Lewis and The Outnet. The lovely people at Lyst asked me to choose a few of my faves, so I’ve chosen carefully, just in case Mr E is reading…
As I mentioned recently, Boden are ON FIRE at the moment (not literally, I just mean their stuff is fantastic). If you haven’t experienced their fab new autumn/winter range, I’ve got the perfect excuse to order a few bits: a fabulous 20% off plus free delivery + free returns (excluding Boden Icons range) from today just until Sunday! *Update – there’s now a new 25% off code from now until Tuesday 29th!)
