Last week, I was lucky enough to be invited to Skye Gyngell’s gorgeous (and aptly named) Spring restaurant at Somerset House in London for the prettiest of breakfasts to celebrate the launch of the new hush spring 2018 collection. With fresh petal colours, delicate prints and new twists on some of my favourite pieces, I could very easily have packed the whole lot up and taken it home with me. Read on for a look at that beautiful breakfast and a peek at some of the pieces that caught my eye.
I’ve been so excited about pressing publish on this. January isn’t the kindest of months, and a little web-browsing of beautiful new clothes is exactly what we need to get us through to the finish. With impeccable timing, the new hush pre-spring collection is live from today, featuring an ever-stylish mix of laid back luxe: easy shapes, gorgeous new prints, some updated old favourites and of course, their customary pop of colour. Here are a few of my favourites:
I adore winter dressing! No worries about whether you’re showing knobbly knees or less-than-perfect upper arms: it’s all about snuggly jumpers, soft textures, boots and tights. Hurrah! Some of my favourite outfits recently have been deliciously easy and wintery: a soft, bronze pleated skirt with a black roll neck jumper and boots, and leather leggings teamed with a crisp, white shirt and a slouchy grey jumper (and topped off with a gorgeous black teddy bear coat). For me, it seems so much less complicated to put together a great outfit at this time of year. I love hush for good quality, wearable style, and the new hush winter 17 collection has some delicious pieces. Here are some of my favourites:
This week saw the announcement of the new hush autumn 17 collection and it really is a gorgeous one. I’ve seen them go from quite a niche online company to wandering the racks of their clothes in John Lewis like a proud mama, and I continue to love everything about their relaxed, grown up style. I absolutely love it when a new season collection lands and it’s no secret that autumn’s my favourite: all those snuggly jumpers, muted colours and soft fabrics make me so happy. Let’s face it, our summer’s been pretty nonexistent, hasn’t it? During our dog walks recently (yup, in wellies and rainwear), we’ve picked handfuls of blackberries for crumble, and the crabapples and sloes are dotting the hedgerows already… It’s like mother nature wants us all to forget it ever happened and move straight on to autumn. And honestly? At this stage, I’m pretty happy with that.
If you’ve been here before (hello!), you’ll know that at the beginning of the year, I wrote a little about this year being my year of ‘thoughtful spending‘. This meant attacking the vast piles of clothes in the top of my wardrobe, working out what was wearable and what wasn’t (tick), sending what wasn’t to charity (tick!), and having a good hard look at how in future, my wardrobe could be a) smaller and b) more user friendly (work in progress). Of course once I started on my home wardrobe, this started to filter down to my holiday wardrobe. Here’s how I got on in my quest to pack like a minimalist.
I’m SO ready for some lovely spring fashion. It doesn’t matter that it’s still grey and chilly outside, it’s so exciting to see some new season gorgeousness start to appear to cheer up all these long January days. One of my favourite brands, hush, has released a few gorgeous pieces as a taster of the full spring collection, and I’m loving the modern shapes. I think more and more for me, my clothes choices aren’t about being ‘fashionable’, but more about them being modern classics that I can mix and match with items already in my wardrobe. As I get older, I have much more idea about what suits me, and buying new pieces is all about quality, great material and wearability. Here are my favourite from the hush spring pre-collection:
There are lots of lovely things afoot at hush at the moment, including snuggly new PJ and luxury loungewear sets, delicious new underwear and, as always, beautifully soft knitwear including this little beauty, the Claire jumper, that I recently took to Boston – here it is, teamed with some coated skinnies (these are Next ones, but Boden do lovely waxed skinnies – currently with 25% off) on a breezy beach walk in Plymouth Massachusetts. So soft and comfortable. As an extra bonus, the hush flash sale is live from today until 30th with something like 80 lines discounted up to 64% (extra 10% on the Sunday!), so it’s just £55 at the moment! Read more
So it seems that when I left it was high summer, and I’ve arrived back well into autumn. My first dog walk was a bit of a revelation: blackberry bushes a mass of gorgeous, ripe fruit and burnished leaves on the trees already! If you follow me on Instagram you’ll have seen my current favourite new autumnal nail colour (556 in Grenat Irreverent – which incidentally smells lovely – kind of like parma violets) and I’ve also noticed new AW16 pieces from hush – hurrah!
So a while back, when I was telling you about Christmas in July, I mentioned that I’d bumped into the lovely guys from hush homewear at the John Lewis Christmas event, where they were celebrating their new partnership (hush concessions will be opening in the Birmingham, Chelmsford, Leeds, Oxford Street and Peter Jones stores) and caught a sneaky peek of the new hush autumn 2016 collection. Today, though, there’s even more excitement as it’s time to get a proper look at the gorgeousness. Hurrah! Mr E and I were only saying the other day that it seems weird, given the current scorchio weather, that there are blackberries on the bushes and machines in the fields finishing the harvest. I don’t feel like I’m properly done with summer yet, but then I look at all the lovely new collections and think that maybe it will be nice when autumn arrives after all!
Now you know I love Christmas, right? Well, I’m very lucky because I get to do it twice. I know! Every year, a lot of the brands do this AMAZING thing called Christmas in July, when they decorate a lovely area in London and nosey people like me (bloggers, journalists, etc) get to go along and have a look at all the fabulous glittery things that the brands have got planned for Christmas. HOLD ME BACK! Anyhoo, so I grabbed my friend Kylie and we headed off to the best of the Christmas in July shows. Here’s how we got on!
I’ve got so much stuff to tell you!, I’ve got all the goss and the new products from all the Christmas in July press days (moving Christmas trees – you heard it here first), and then there’s the day I spent with my lovely Dad in his garden (he’s very well and still as feisty as ever – update soon), and the amazing tea I had with a new friend at The Grove – so much writing to do – not that I’m complaining of course 🙂
First, though, did I mention ages ago that I did one of those colour consultation things? The advice I received was basically life changing: for my colouring, I should always pick the softer option of any of the colours I want to wear, so: black? Pick grey instead. Navy? Think a dustier blue, or soft turquoise. Red? Pick coral or pink. I still follow these rules all the time and at the moment, it’s all about the summery coral. So what exactly IS coral? Well think orange, but with a slightly pinkish tinge to it. If you’re pale and interesting (heh) like me, it’s the perfect flattering shade for lips, nails and, well, just about anything else really. It reminds me of holidays and beaches and cocktails (and you know I love all those things).
If you love hush as much as I do, you’ll be delighted to know that they’ve just announced an exciting 20% off flash pre-sale on their summer stock. This is quite rare so if you’ve had your eye on anything for a while, it’s time to log on and grab it now! The flash pre-sale at hush only lasts until midnight on June 30th, so don’t delay!
Twice now, and both times at an airport, someone has stopped me to ask me where my jeans are from. I always wear my hush boyfriend jeans for travel. They’re loose enough to be comfy, but somehow they seem to look effortlessly stylish (this is thanks to the jeans, not me, as styling is not my forté). I roll them up, bung on some Converse, a couple of layers and away I go.
It’s finally here! I’m so excited to share the brand new hush beachwear collection with you. I’ve been having a good old virtual rummage around and there are so many amazing new pieces I don’t really know where to start. There are some delicious brights, including gorgeous hot corals, fluros and bright turquoise, plus some seriously lovely neutrals and lots and lots of lovely denim too! Here are my top picks:
I’ve had SUCH a busy week. Oh, I’m absolutely not moaning – who else gets to spend their days chatting on the radio and talking to wonderful, interesting people about the job that they love? I feel like the luckiest girl in the world, especially as it’s my birthday tomorrow and the Easter long weekend! And all this lovely stuff has put me in the mood for a bit of shopping. I’m loving all the hush spring brights AND they’ve got 10% off (enter EASTER16 at the checkout) and a free bar of delicious hush chocolate if you order (over £30) over the Easter weekend. What’s not to love? Here are my picks of their most beautiful must-haves to brighten your spring wardrobe:
I really wanted to pop out on Tuesday morning, but I knew that hush were about to unveil a little taster of their new SS16 collection and I just couldn’t bring myself to leave without seeing it! I’m away next week so I’m going to miss the unveiling of the main collection, but I promise to update you when I come back. Happily, this little taster is now online and I’m so glad I waited in – there are some really delicious things there, including soft, summer cashmere in delicious blush pinks and denim blues, some buttery soft leather loveliness and some fabulous denim separates too.
