What’s it like to ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance?

December 10, 2024/1 Comment/in BLOG, Disney holidays, Food travel, FOODIE ADVENTURES, NEWS /by English Mum

Well, WHAT A WEEK! I’ve got so much to tell you, and a gazillion photos to show you and, honestly, the whole experience just seems like a bit of a dream now I’m back home. If you follow me on social media, you’ll know that last week I was lucky enough to be whisked away (by Virgin Atlantic’s very own Falcon, no less) to Walt Disney World in Orlando, where I got to make my very first visit to the Black Spire Outpost on the remote planet of Batuu, right at Galaxy’s Edge. In my post detailing everything you need to know about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge a while back, I mostly focused on the Disneyland California park, but now everything is up and running in Orlando and it’s completely breathtaking! So what’s it like to ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance? Grab a coffee and get comfy and I’ll tell you all about it.

You all know how I feel about the food at Walt Disney World. The dining there is some of the best in the world, and the restaurants - in the parks, the resort hotels and at Disney Springs, are some of my favourite in the world. If you follow a plant based diet, don’t eat meat, dairy or both, or have other dietary requirements, it can be daunting visiting a new place, so I thought to celebrate World Vegan Day, I’d take you through some of the brilliant vegan dining options at Walt Disney World, Florida. September 17, 2024/6 Comments/in BLOG, Disney holidays, FOODIE ADVENTURES, Holidays, Hotels I love, NEWS /by English Mum

Last week, Disneyland Paris announced their future plans at a brand new Media Expo event and I thought it would be really helpful to create a Disneyland Paris timeline, to show you what’s coming up for the rest of this year, and also next year (including the return of Marvel Summer of Super Heroes which we loved last year!) and beyond. I’ve also got news of an absolutely brilliant winter offer which will save you a fortune (but remember you need to book before October 1st so don’t delay!). Here, then, is all you need to know if you’re planning your Disneyland Paris holiday into 2020 and beyond.

You know I’m a big Virgin Atlantic fan and have written about their brilliant service before. After flying to Orlando this week, I thought it might be really interesting to tell you about my Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy experience, so if you’re considering upgrading to Premium on your next trip, you’ll know what to expect and be able to make a decision about whether it’s worth it (spoiler: it SO is!), especially as this time I got to fly in ‘the bubble’ on the upper deck! So on my flight, I took a few pictures and jotted down a few notes for you. Here goes, then, with my Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy experience!

Spanning more than 14 acres, the brilliant, immersive new land is the first of two - the other, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Orlando follows in August this year. Everything you need to know about Toy Story Play Days at Disneyland Paris

April 24, 2025/0 Comments/in BLOG, Disney holidays, FOODIE ADVENTURES, Holidays, Hotels I love, NEWS /by English Mum

Have you heard much about Toy Story 4 yet? We’re huge Toy Story fans in this family (unsurprisingly) and can’t wait to see Woody, Buzz and friends reunited in the latest film which sees the gang taking a road trip with Bonnie and a brand new character called Forky. The adventure takes an unexpected turn when Woody is reunited with his old friend Bo Peep too. The new film is produced by the brilliant Jonas Rivera who also produced Inside Out and Up, and directed by Josh Cooley, who directed the gorgeous short film Riley’s First Date. Toy Story 4 is released on 26 June, and to celebrate, Disneyland Paris have announced Toy Story Play Days - an 11 day celebration dedicated to all things Toy Story 4.

The best friends breakfast with Lilo & Stitch at Disney's Polynesian Resort

The best friends breakfast with Lilo & Stitch at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

February 19, 2025/0 Comments/in BLOG, Disney holidays, Food travel, FOODIE ADVENTURES, Holidays, Hotels I love /by English Mum

The boys have always adored Lilo & Stitch. I dread to think how many times we’ve watched the movie over the years and even now Charlie’s got a Stitch character on his car keys. One of the things I really wanted to do when we were at Walt Disney World was to treat everyone to the best friends breakfast with Lilo & Stitch. I did it ages ago and it was great fun, plus the food really stood out for me, so on the day we were due to fly home, I booked us in for breakfast for a last treat before we headed back to pack up and leave Disney’s Contemporary Resort (sob). Is it worth buying tickets to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

Is it worth buying tickets to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party?

February 12, 2025/0 Comments/in BLOG, Disney holidays, FOODIE ADVENTURES, Holidays /by English Mum

Last year, I told you all my top tips for planning a Christmas trip to Walt Disney World, Florida, one of which was to give serious thought to buying tickets to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Honestly, as I said at the time, it’s not cheap, and there were six of us, so we had to think long and hard about whether to go. So now we’ve had the chance to experience the event and time at home to really process all our favourite things from the holiday, I thought it was time to revisit the question: is it worth buying tickets to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party? Here’s more about what to expect at the event, and a deeper look at whether we thought we got our money’s worth.

Some of our favourite things to do at Walt Disney World

Some of our favourite things to do at Walt Disney World

February 5, 2025/0 Comments/in BLOG, Disney holidays, FOODIE ADVENTURES, Holidays /by English Mum

Sometimes, when you’re planning a Disney holiday, it can all seem a bit overwhelming. When I was writing my post with my top tips for planning a Christmas trip to Walt Disney World, I think I touched on the fact that I’d let it all get completely out of hand and was rabidly writing lists and planning out days until Jim gently reminded me that this was, in fact, a lovely family holiday, not some sort of military operation. One of nicest things, I always find, is talking to people about their own cherished memories of their Disney holidays. And when they go all misty eyed and say ‘oh we loved XYZ’, those are the things you should be listening to. So with that in mind, here are our own misty eyed memories - some of our favourite things to do at Walt Disney World.

Christmas at Disneys Contemporary Resort

A Disney Dream come true - Christmas at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

January 29, 2025/0 Comments/in BLOG, Disney holidays, Food travel, FOODIE ADVENTURES, Holidays, Hotels I love, Restaurants and cafés /by English Mum

Waving goodbye to Universal Studios was hard, but we were also incredibly excited as our next stop was Walt Disney World, and more specifically, Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Since my very first visit to Walt Disney World, back in 2009, I’ve always wanted to stay at the Contemporary. I’m a bit of a Mary Blair obsessive (more of this in a bit) and I’m fascinated by the hotel’s structure, more specifically the story of how the A-frame of the Contemporary Tower was built and then workers slotted the rooms, which were constructed off-site back in 1971, into the building after they were finished. I’ve even heard rumours that at one stage, Walt Disney planned to keep the hotel modern by periodically removing and updating the rooms before slotting them back in. So what’s it like to spend Christmas at Disney’s Contemporary Resort? Here’s what we thought.

A magical Christmas at Disneyland Paris

November 20, 2024/0 Comments/in BLOG, Disney holidays, Featured, FOODIE ADVENTURES, Holidays, NEWS, Short breaks /by English Mum

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind weekend for my pal, Mickey Mouse, as he’s been celebrating a very special anniversary - it’s 90 years since Mickey first appeared in Walt Disney’s iconic cartoon, Steamboat Willie. This weekend was also pretty special at Disneyland Paris, because as well as celebrating Mickey’s 90th with a celeb-filled party, and an enormous cake baked by Pastry Chef and Chocolatier Pierre Hermé, there was a special celebration to mark the opening of Disney’s Enchanted Christmas. If you’re thinking of experiencing a magical Christmas at Disneyland Paris, I’ve teamed up with Isango.com, the specialist retailer of tours, experiences and Disneyland Paris Tickets to bring you all the latest news this holiday season.

Gorgeous new California adventures from Virgin Holidays

Gorgeous new California adventures from Virgin Holidays

October 2, 2024/0 Comments/in BLOG, Disney holidays, Food travel, FOODIE ADVENTURES, Holidays, LIFE & STYLE, Wine /by English Mum

Well, hello October! I was just saying over on Instagram that I’ve got a very mixed (and very lovely) month coming up, with some exciting travel plans, plus some time at home set aside for baking, drinking red wine and planning future trips, of course. Talking of wine and trips, I attended a really lovely lunch last week in London, especially to hear about Virgin Holidays’ exciting plans for some really special new Californian tours. I think California can be a bit daunting as a holiday destination. We Brits head off to Florida without a second thought, but with California, I think maybe we’re a bit more hesitant when it comes to planning a holiday there: it seems huge, potentially expensive and terribly far away, somehow. Happily all that’s going to change (the hesitant bit, not how far away it is - even Richard Branson’s not that good), with the introduction of a really lovely new trio of one-off, personalised California adventures from Virgin Holidays that will really help you to get under the skin of this beautiful, diverse area.

  • About English MumI’m a 40 year old mum and I work at home developing and testing recipes for magazines and recipe books, and writing about food and travel. I also write for readyforten.com and travel blog havealovelytime.com. I am an excessive twitterer (tweeter?), a bit blonde, a bit of a nerd, an occasional hysteric and the most unsporty person on the planet (I was the one round the back of the bike sheds having a fag during PE) and, apart from a small group of my very close and adored friends, am rather unsociable (I like my own company – possibly a throwback from hours spent fielding in the sea during childhood beach cricket games: ‘go deep! No, deeper!’). I can jabber for England and can be lured anywhere with something pink and sparkly or anything that smells nice. I am married with two sons: #1: our oldest son (the mad scientist of the family – he’s 15, sings like an angel, strums a mean guitar, reads books faster than that bloke off Criminal Minds, has a wit sharper than a razor, is the only tidy person in the whole house and always smells nice too – all fan mail gratefully received) and #2: our very own Death Wish…
