Marvel Summer of Super Heroes at Disneyland Paris
This weekend, Mr E and I were lucky enough to be invited to the launch event for the brand new Marvel Summer of Super Heroes at Disneyland Paris (you might remember reading about me forgetting my passport when I was invited to the special exhibition in Paris to showcase the plans for the new Marvel event. What a wally. Anyway, this time I panicked incessantly and checked my passport every five minutes and yes, got to Paris in one piece in time to experience this brilliant new summer of Marvel-based attractions available to everyone visiting the park this summer. Read on to find out more about it!
Marvel Premium Dinner Package
On the first evening, we took a balmy stroll through Disney Village (trying not to get diverted by all the amazing Disney shops there) to the Manhattan Restaurant at Disney’s Hotel New York to experience the Marvel premium dinner package - a unique dining experience which is brand new for this summer. Guests are welcomed into the restaurant, and dine (with suitable super hero background music) on a delicious buffet, with some extra special Marvel super hero desserts. Tables are called up individually to experience time with the Marvel characters. It’s a new twist on character dining and I think it works really well, giving each table proper time to take photos and interact with the Marvel super heroes (we met Captain America, Thor and the Black Widow) with a special backdrop rather than them just visiting you at your table.

Disney Illuminations
After dinner, we took a stroll back to Disneyland Park to make the most of the quieter evening by jumping on a few of our favourite attractions, and then to experience the absolutely gorgeous Disney Illuminations nighttime spectacular show, which lights up Sleeping Beauty Castle with all sorts of incredible fireworks, water jets, lighting and projection technology set to music and images from your favourite Disney classics like Beauty and the Beast and Peter Pan. It’s just gorgeous, and an absolute must-see. I always say if you have little ones, it’s worth heading back to the room earlier for a nap then returning so they can see the show.

The Marvel Summer of Super Heroes Opening Ceremony
Roaring trucks, troops dropping from helicopters and confetti cannons heralded the opening of the exciting new Marvel Summer of Super Heroes at Walt Disney Studios Park, full of fabulous Marvel experiences, bringing together a jaw-dropping selection of super heroes to really amp up your summer at Disneyland Paris.
As we walked into the park, we came across the huge, imposing models of Black Panther, Hulk and Spiderman (brilliant for photos) outside the theatre, but there was no time to stop for pics as we were heading straight in for the first new show.

The new Marvel: Summer of Super Heroes United show
The all-new show takes place in a spectacular theatre with a Tron-like entrance lit with strobing lights. The show itself is an action packed, live performance featuring super heroes including Black Panther, Spider Man, Iron Man and more, banding together to defeat Thanos and foil his evil plans to turn the heroes against each other.

The show boasts one of Europe’s largest LED screens as well as incredible new special effects and technology such as drones, moving sets, pyrotechnics, ACTUAL HULK, video projection and more. It’s a clever show that features some brilliant performances with edge-of-the-seat acrobatic skills and incredible fight scenes. We loved it.

Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Dance off
Outside in the Production Courtyard, we found Peter Quill, better known as Star-Lord, and a slightly reluctant, and scary looking Gamora starring in a truly interactive dance off that had the crowd strutting their funky stuff to some amazing tunes from the 70s and 80s. The Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Dance-Off will take place several times a day, so you’d be mad to miss it.

Stark Expo Presents: Energy for Tomorrow
Last but not least, we were treated to this brand new, live action show - again at the Production Courtyard, but up on a staged area at the base of the Hollywood Tower Hotel. The show features some great Marvel characters interacting in person and via a huge video screen and it’s full of action and excitement.

Brand new Marvel treats and merch
Of course, there’s absolutely no point in visiting if you don’t bring back loads of goodies to prove that you actually experienced new Marvel Summer of Super Heroes. We loved all the new merchandise, including brand new Marvel super hero ears (a must-have if you’re a collector), as well as t-shirts, bags and more.

There are also some brilliant new food options, including sweet treats like savoury Groot bread and sweet Groot and Iron Man cookies, as well as special drinks with take-home Iron Man steins.

Where to stay: Disneyland Hotel
We started off our weekend by checking into the beautiful Disneyland Hotel, right by the entrance to the park. I think I’ve stayed in most of the hotels at Disneyland Paris, but this pretty millennial-pink chateau reminds me of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa at Walt Disney World, Florida. Inside, it’s just like staying in a luxury French hotel from Victorian times, and it also holds my favourite bar, the gorgeous Café Fantasia, which serves the best hot chocolate and also my favourite cocktail: gin with pink grapefruit and a big wedge of orange. Delicious!

Rooms are super-comfy - ours had two double beds and a seating area which folds out into another bed, as well as a large bathroom with bath. And all this is just a quick stroll across to the park entrance. Of course, it’s going to have some competition as my favourite soon, when Hotel New York gets its full Marvel makeover and is re-imagined to become Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel.

Getting there
We travelled on the Eurostar Standard Premier service, and really enjoyed the experience. The carriages are quiet and comfortable and a light meal is served both ways (breakfast is coffee, pastries, breakfast rolls and yogurt, and our light supper on the way back was a delicious quiche with potato salad, chocolate mousse, water and complimentary wine).

Huge thanks, as always, to the hard-working Disney Destinations UK and Ireland PR team who work so hard to host us on these incredible trips, and of course to Eurostar. I’ll never stop pinching myself that I’m lucky enough to be a part of this world (see what I did there?).
