The new APH parking facility and WIN your holiday parking at Gatwick *closed*
I’m lucky enough to need airport parking quite a lot, whether it’s flying off on assignments for Cruise International, or writing about family travel for English Mum, and I always, always use Airport Parking & Hotels (APH). I love their convenient meet and greet service, but recently I had the chance to try the parking at their brand new off-site parking facility at Gatwick. APH’s brand new home is now located even closer to the airport, meaning shorter transfer times to both airport terminals via their swanky liveried shuttle buses. Read on to find out how I got on, and to win your own holiday parking this summer at APH’s brand new Gatwick base.
Why is the move important?
I love that APH take their environmental impact seriously. They’re a carbon-balanced company and have worked closely with the World Land Trust for more than 12 years. By moving closer to Gatwick, they’ll cut fuel consumption by almost 1.2 million litres over the coming decade. On top of this, the CO2 will drop by 2100 tonnes in the same time period. The new reception building also has photovoltaic roof panels that convert sunlight into power.
Why use airport parking?
I love being able to drive to the airport. For me, it’s about being able to work on my own timescale and not having to rely on trains or a coach (the service from where I live isn’t the easiest to navigate). Depending on the time of day, a train to Gatwick can involve four changes (argh) and the nearest coach to me leaves from Hemel Hempstead, which is a 12 mile drive away! Your car is parked at a decent, secure location, not in some field somewhere and is well looked after the whole time. As it stays on site, they don’t put a ton of miles on it either.
How the new APH parking facility works
I found the new APH centre really easily - it’s well signposted off the M23, junction 10. The whole process is really easy - you drive through a barrier, then park in a holding lane. The service is super efficient - just pull up outside, pop in to register with the friendly staff who check all your details, including your flight arrival times, and then just leave your keys in the car (they do all the parking). You’re given a slip of paper confirming your details and with instructions to follow when you land, then it’s just a case of hopping onto a bus - the drivers are really friendly and helpful - they even help you with your luggage. Just as a little experiment, I timed my whole experience there. Arriving at 6.40am, I was on the bus to Gatwick by 6.50am, was pulling out of the APH facility at 6.57am (they don’t make you wait for a whole bus to fill up) and arrived at Gatwick at 7.06 am. Not bad eh?
Coming back is just as easy. You just text your booking number to APH when you land, then head to the bus stops at the terminal. You pick your keys up, pick up your car and you’re on your way again. Easy, efficient, safe and reliable. What’s not to love?
