Ten top tips for visiting the Warner Bros Studio Tour, London
On our recent trip to The Grove Hotel, we’d arranged a visit to the Warner Bros Studio Tour - The Making of Harry Potter at Leavesden Studios. The tour, based in the studios originally used to film the series, has some absolutely amazing things to see and do - loads of props and costumes, sneaky peeks behind the scenes and much more. It’s a difficult one to review as I’m conscious that I don’t want to spoil it for you if you’re planning a visit yourself, but here’s our top ten tips for visiting the Warner Bros Studio Tour:
1. BOOK!
If you want to visit the tour, you MUST book. They don’t accept any walk-ins at all and we saw quite a few people who had paid a lot of money to travel from London who were turned away at the ticket office. You cannot buy a ticket at the studios.
2. Check prices
There are options for family tickets which work out better value than buying single tickets. At the moment, the adult ticket is £29, child is £21.50 (age 5 to 15) and under 4s are free. The family ticket (two adults, two children or one adult, three children) is £85.
3. Invest in the audio visual guide
The guide costs £4.95 and basically narrates your journey around the tour to you through headphones. It’s narrated by Draco Malfoy, which is a rather lovely voice to have in your ear as you wander round the tour. It’s invaluable as it stops you missing bits out and also is full of really interesting facts too. Oh, and if you buy the guidebook, don’t look at it as you’re queuing - it contains lots of spoilers!
4. Check the website before you book
There are often special events - for example over the summer holidays (Friday 26th July to Monday 2nd September) there’s the ‘Summer Spells’ special events where you can learn more about some of the famous spells from the series and take part in wand choreography lessons.
5. Be prepared to queue
The staff let about 100 people in every half hour, so you might queue for a short while.
6. Take your time
The tour is SO exciting, and there’s so much to see that the temptation is to rush round everything. However, once you’ve left the first studio, you can’t go back in, so if you discover you’re pretty quick round the second part, you can’t go back! This is another reason why the audio visual tour thingy is worth the money as it encourages you to pace yourself.
7. Hogwarts Castle
Don’t rush past the model (you won’t want to anyway, it’s beautiful) as the lighting is adjusted from night to day over a 4 minute cycle - perfect for pictures.
8. The shop
Be aware that the tour filters you out into the shop, so you’re going to have to be prepared to run the ‘can I have this? Can I have that?’ gauntlet. If you’ve got younger children it’s worth setting a budget before they’re exposed to all the goodies!
9. Food and drink
There’s a café in the foyer which serves decent food and drink, but if it’s a nice day, bring a picnic as there’s a nice picnic area by the carpark that you can use. You can also buy a drink and a snack in the outside area after the first studio - you can also buy butterbeer here and see the Dudleys’ house and the Knight bus where you can hop on and take photos!
10. Look out for hotel deals or store your luggage
The deal we reviewed was an overnight stay at The Grove. You’ll find more information, and prices, here.
Whether you’re travelling locally or you’re flying in from abroad, ABC Selfstore in Camden have a range of luggage storage facilities to make your trip around the Warner Bros studios more enjoyable and less weighed down!
I’ve also got a family ticket for the Warner Bros. Studio Tour to give away courtesy of the Current Accounts team at NatWest! Just leave a comment, telling me your favourite scene/quote/character from the Harry Potter movie series and the winner will be chosen at random. Usual English Mum giveaway rules apply. Giveaway ends at midnight on Friday 2nd August 2013.

Fancy dress, i have a 7 foot HP cinema advertising board on my landing, we made a sign for the garage as Platform 9 and3/4 etc etc etc.. you get the hint! It has to be the part with the time turner, when they go back in time and rescue Buckbeak. I think it’s so cleverly done.
My Fourite Quote:

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Professor Lupin: Now repeat after me — without wands please — repeat after me, Riddikulus.
Class: Riddikulus!
Professor Lupin: And again!
Class: Riddikulus!
Malfoy: This class is ridiculous
My favourite scene is when Harry’s uncle tries to stop him receiving letters from Hogwart’s and their little house in Privett Drive gets inundated by (very determined) owls all delivering letters!
My favourite quote from the movies is in the last film when Neville Longbottom is standing on the bridge shouting ‘you and whose army’! So funny!
Love Harry Potter. I love it when Dobbie is made free by being offered an item of clothing, a sock.
Its hard to chose 1 favourite character because I love them all, and the cast in the film is second to none but I’ve got to go with Hagrid. He’s brilliant.
My favourite characters are Remus Lupin (because I know what a massive difference having a great teacher can make), and Neville Longbottom (because he had such great character development and I am fascinated by the fact that he could have been ‘The Chosen One’ if only Voldemort had decided a little differently.) Is it cheating to have two favourites? I could probably have 5 or 6 if I’m honest!
My favourite part in the films is when, in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Dobby discovers he has been ‘given’ Harry’s sock by Lucius Malfoy inside Tom Riddle’s Diary, setting him free. His facial expressions were wonderful. I think they did a fantastic job of bringing Dobby to life on the screen.
That coupled with him standing up to Bellatrix Lestrange in the Deathly Hallows Part 1 by saying ‘Dobby has no master. Dobby is a free elf, and Dobby has come to save Harry Potter and his friends!’
It just takes his story full circle, and makes me cry every time.
when Harry finally finds out he is a wizard!!!!!

My favourite part is when Harry is informed he is a Wizard!

The Flying Car Scene.
Kinda morbid, but its when Katie Bell touches the Opal necklace, the image where she floats in the air as if underwater just outside Hogsmeade is stunning
I love the part when Hagrid bursts through the door of the hut and tells Harry he’s a wizard
I just love all of the Harry Potter films
i love sirius for trying to be a good godfather to harry
Favourite Character- the House Elf - he’s funny and kind and loyal to Harry Potter throughout the films - even if sometimes he’s a little too helpful 🙂
When Hagrid makes Dudley grow a pig’s tail after catching him gorging on Harry’s birthday cake!!!
When Hagrid knocks the door in on the remote island where the Dudleys have gone to hide Harry and says “Sorry ’bout that”. The look of horror on their faces is priceless
My favourite character is Sirius Black but my favourite part is when Ron throws up all those slugs. Ergh
Neville winning Griffindor the house cup because he stood up to Ron, Harry and Hermonie.
I love any visit to Hogwarts village, but especially the one where invisible Harry throws snowballs at Draco & pals.
Harry Potter!
My favourite scene is when Neville steps forward to give his speech! In Deathly Hallows Part2 and then they realise Harry is still alive, and chaos erupts! OMG I love Harry Potter Soooooo Much!!

My favourite scene is when Harry visits Diagon Alley for the very first time with Hagrid. There were so many things to discover!
My favourite season is when harry and Ron are in the forest with the spiders. Rons absolute fear of the spiders is brill!
Must say I love Harry. It has been great seeing him grow and develop through the films.
I love Harry Potter as he got my kids into reading - my little potterite loves any scene where Hermione out smarts the boys!!
When Moaning Myrtle says “I was just sitting in the u bend thinking about death” It’s clever, subtle and just plain funny.
“not my daughter you bitch” - my loves that
My favourite character is Snape - Alan Rickman is amazing. 🙂 “I can teach you how to bottle fame, brew glory, even put a stopper in death”
Those now famous words uttered by Hagrid in the first film.
“you’re a wizard Harry”
OMG so difficult to choose because at the age of 23 I am still harry potter obsessed and have so many favourite moments, but one of many funny scenes when one of the ‘Weasley twins’ has ear taken off and George says ‘how do you feel?’ and he says ‘I feel holy Fred, hole-ey? ‘
So many great characters to choose from, I’m going for Umbridge, possibly the most evil character of all!
When Hermione drinks the potion
and
Her face turns into a cats face
My favourite part of the Harry Potter films is the Weasley House. I’d love a house like that!
The bit that makes me sob( much to my children’s embarrassment)is in the final film, where a very scared Harry enters the forest alone to fight Voldemort and the ghosts of his loved ones appear to support him. ( I’m feeling teary just remembering it!)
I love hermione the most
I loved all of the Harry Potter books so I was always worried about how the films would portray things. The most amazing feeling I received was when the Start of the Quidditch World Cup began,in the Goblet of Fire, it was quite something!
Great to keep the kids happy till we get to Florida
Umbridge’s reign of terror and her final comeuppance
My favourite character is Moaning Myrtle, she is so hilarious and favourite scene is the scene where Harry, Ron and Hermione first meet her. My favourite quote from her is: “Oh Harry - if you die down there, you’re welcome to share my toilet!”
When Harry starts talking Parseltounge in The Chamber of Secrets!! LOVE that bit! 🙂
My favour outfits character is Ron, it all happens to Ron
expelliarmus!
My favourite bit involved Neville Longbottom and the snake - unlikely I will spoil it for anyone, but I won’t say anymore just in case
Where Eon says “Why not butterflies” when they have to follow spiders.
when ron is forced to dance with mcgonagall and harry laughs
When Hermione punches Draco - girl power!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWGYKrh2YEo
My favourite character is ron and in particular i like when Hermione is talking about them nearly getting expelled and ron says “she needs to sort out her priorities!
The scene that always makes me laugh is when Harry and Ron are too late to get onto Platform 9 3/4 at the train station and run into the wall!
My favourite scene is in half blood prince when Harry take the felix felicis potion and goes to Hagrid’s, picking up Professor Slughorn on the way. When they are burying Aragog Harry says “not to mention the pincers” while making pincer-like movements with his hands! ha ha 🙂
Professor Snape is one of the greatest characters ever created. The layers of his character developed with each passing novel. I absolutely love him and how Alan Rickman brought him to life on screen.
My favourite quote/ scene is where Dumbledore is drinking the poison in order to get the horcrux and he says ‘Im not worried, I am with you’ I think it’s just such a touching part of the series and proves Dumbledore is just as vulnerable as the next person, if not more so. It proves no matter how amazing and powerful the person is, they still hold the feelings and conscious of an average person : )
My favourite line has to be when Harry tries to say “Diagon Alley” with the floo powder, but then ends up saying “Diagenilly” instead, sending him off to somewhere strange…
Rewatching it, I’m fascinated by the acting process. Mr. Radcliffe knows he has to say “Diagon Alley” incorrectly, and in doing so, he sort of closes his eyes in a weird way, does something strange with his throat, and generally acts very awkwardly.
I just find it absolutely hilarious! http://youtu.be/jm6ROBZe-PM
He’s supposed to be saying it mid-sneeze-ish because the floo powder is tickling his nose
Thank you so much for the chance to win this!!!! It is the perfect place to go, judging by your comments and it’s fab because this family is full of potterheads!! Definitely will have to go there x
In the Chamber of Secrets - When Ron rescues poor Harry from his evil aunt and uncle in a flying car.
Ahhh that’s what friends are for!!!
“Muggles have garden gnomes, too, you know,” Harry told Ron as they crossed the lawn.
“Yeah, I’ve seen those things they think are gnomes,” said Ron, bent double with his head in a peony bush, “like fat little Santa Clauses with fishing rods…”
-J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
I love hermione 🙂
“I’m going to bed, before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed. Or worse, expelled.” - Hermione
“She needs to sort out her priorities!” - Ron
An absolute classic!
Always will be the famous line “not my daughter you bitch!” I just LOVE it!!
Has to be Dobbie - so so cute and we all cried when he died 🙁
When Harry and voldemort dive off of the tower.
Ron: Why spiders? Why couldn’t it be “follow the butterflies?”
Ron: [mimicking Hermione] “It’s Levi-OOOOH-sa not LevioSAR.” She’s a nightmare, honestly. It’s no wonder she hasn’t got any friends!
thanks
When Ron is sat on the chess piece playing magical chess

‘Let me introduce you to your new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher… me. Gilderoy Lockhart, Order of Merlin, Third Class, Honorary member of the Dark Force Defense League, and five times winner of Witch Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Award. But I don’t talk about that; I didn’t get rid of the Banden Banshee by smiling at him.’
From The Goblet Of Fire, When Lord V touches harry and says ‘It’s amazing what a drop of your blood can do, I can touch you now’
Two of them start screaming…..

Dobbie is the greatest!
Looks like a fun place to take the kids!!
My favourite character is Hermione!

I have not won anything for a long time. Perhaps megic from Harry potter might do the trick.
Love little dobbie when he is saying - bad dobbie bad dobbie!
Dumbledore & Hagrid rock!
My son would love to go here x
My favourite character is Professor Mc.Gonagall. I practice those withering stares in the mirror everyday and still I haven’t mastered them.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WANT TO WIN THIS PRIZE!!!
what i would give
When Draco Malfoy gets punched by HERMIONE in the face
Thanks for these top tips. Hope to use some of them if we win this great prize.
expelliamous!
so many great moments its difficult to narrow it down to one, so I let my son decide and he’s opted for Harrys journey on the night bus,
Professor Minerva McGonagall to Harry, Ron, & Hermione: “Why is it, that whenever anything happens, it’s always you three?”
Ron Weasley: “Believe me, Professor. I’ve been asking myself that same question for the past six years.”
I just love the magic of the stories
Harry is our favourite character - who else?
We loved seeing the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure at Christmas and it would be great to also experience the Warner Bros Studio Tour.
My favorite scene is the flying car scene in The Chamber Of secrets. Their terrified faces are hilarious.
It didn’t make the film but I adore the part in the begining of the goblet of fire book where the weasley family visit the dursleys and get stuck. This was due to them having tried to enter via the chimney only to find themselves wedged behind a false fire place. I wish I could erase my memory and have the pleasure of reading all the books again from new! A great prize, fingers crossed…
When Hermione punches Draco Malfoy in the face
Harry Potter was such a good franchise.
“Your a Wizard Harry” 🙂
I read these stories to my son while he was growing up, we watched the films together and although hes all grown up now and studying at uni, I know we’d have a lovely day taking this tour together.
I would really love to win this prize.
I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for Snape! Is that wrong?
no he’s the biggest hero of them all
Hagrid saying ‘I shouldn’t have told you that’ every time he gave information away, so sweet.
When Ron receives a howler
I have been to the tour but would love to go again - so much I’m sure I missed! My favourite part of HP for me is when Ron and Hermione realise how they feel about each other - such a sweet part of the story!
My favourite scene will always be the one where we realise just how much Snape loved Lily Potter. When Dumbledore says “Lily? After all this time?” and Snape utters those immortal words “Always”
It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
Spoken by Albus Dumbledore to Harry regarding the mirror of ERISED
An amazing dream prize for any potter head
I love Harry Potter and my favourite is the goblet of fire. So where Harry finds out his name has been put in.
My favourite scene is when Dobbie is freed from the Malfoys by a sock …..
Fab prize! One of the most touching scenes is when Harry views his life as he would like it to be in Dumbldore’s mirror and sees his mother and father behind him - makes me cry :’o(
What a great prize, I’m (still) a big fan of the series. One of my favorite scenes is when Neville Longbottom kills Nagini.
I watch Harry Potter every single night to help me sleep so this was a tough one BUT my favourite is Sirius Black asking Harry to come and live with him, during the scene that Lupin reveals he is an animagus and turns into a werewolf. I love Snape’s misinterpretation of Sirius being evil ‘vengence is sweet, I told dumbledore you were helping an old friend into the castle..’!
When dobbie dies, poor creature
thanks for the chance to win this x
