What to wear when you go skiing (and for après ski)
We’ve just spent a wonderful few days in beautiful, snowy north Slovakia at a beautiful resort called Liptovsky Dvor. We’ve had an incredible time discovering the area and I’ve got loads to tell you. First, though, there’s the small matter of fashion. As we prepared for our first time skiing, one of the hardest things was trying to work out what to buy. Obviously we didn’t know if we were going to like it, so didn’t want to buy a lot of expensive things, but equally, we didn’t want to arrive woefully under-equipped.
I took my trusty Craghoppers Ilkley parka, which, while not a skiing jacket, is seriously warm and toasty and was perfect for the gentle-enough skiing of a first timer (and snuggling up warmly for all our other activities). I love the way it looks too:

We picked up some thick ski socks from T K Maxx and I also had my very warm and practical Sorel boots, which turned out to be absolutely perfect – I didn’t wear anything else the entire time:

Après ski - one of the best bits!
Next time we book ski holidays, though (if you need a recommendation, Snowfinders are a specialist tailor made ski agency offering bespoke ski holiday packages, tailored around your specific requirements) – and there will be a next time as we all loved it – I want to kit myself out in some really stylish ski gear. Here’s what I’ve got my eye on:
1. Roxy Quinn snowboard jacket £175 2. Barts fur cable hat, Snow + Rock £33 3. Roxy softshell pants, Snow + Rock £135 4. Roxy Isis goggles £73.50 5. Burton base layer pants £40 6. Icebreaker Tech Long Sleeve Half Zip Fair Isle, Snow + Rock £75.
As for the après ski, well it’s all about snuggling up in warm knits, fair isle knits and a dash of fake fur, a la Elle Macpherson:

I took a couple of pairs of my favourite, soft hush leggings and the New Look sweatshirts that I live and die in (I buy a massive size so they’re extra snuggly).

For next time, I’ve got my eye on this gorgeous cardigan:

I’ll be telling you how we got on with the skiing (as you can imagine, Charlie was a natural) and sharing loads of pics from Slovakia very soon. In the mean time, check out my Pinterest skiing board too. Have a wonderful Thursday! xx

[…] The boys have never been and, as my cousin Moon lives in Slovakia, we’ve been talking about visiting them for ages. Then, weirdly, when I was talking at World Travel Market last year I met Rich, owner of Liptovsky Dvor, a gorgeous little resort in Slovakia. We got chatting - I told him about my cousin and he told me about his resort of chalets, nestling in a valley between the High and Low Tatra mountain ranges. Rich and his wife Jana invited us over, and after emailing and chatting for several months, we set dates and started buying skiing stuff. […]
