Weekend wishlist: the black summer dress edit
You know me by now, I’m uneasy with colour. I like chic. I like black. I like a bit of denim and maybe a splash of leopard (it’s a neutral) but that’s it. As the weather warms up, it can sometimes be difficult to find nice black dresses that aren’t of the going out/LBD variety, so I thought I’d do a little black summer dress edit of some of the ones I’ve liked (and a couple I’ve bought) recently.
This lovely square neck linen one from Next is super flattering (I went for the petite as it was a bit shorter and I’m small of boob) and it has pockets!! It’s an easy, chic, pull on style that just looks so nice with a pair of Converse (or even some Birkenstocks, I shouldn’t wonder).

I struggle a little bit with & Other Stories sizing. I think a 36 is a 10, but then someone told me the other day that actually a 38 is a 10, so who knows. I ordered this spaghetti strap dress and decided it was a teeny tiny bit too tight across the boob, so I’m waiting for the next size up to come into stock, but it’s super flattering, easy and breezy for a summer day and I love the ruching at the back that means you can get away without wearing a bra, and the little flippy skirt bit. It feels like perfect summer date attire (oh, the dream). Adorable.

You know I love hush. And now they have a beautiful new website, making it even easier to shop their gorgeous clothes. Oh, and PSA, their stuff sells super well on Ebay, so view it as an investment. I sold two dresses recently and got £25 for each one. That’s not bad at all for a year’s wear, is it? Also, I had my eye on their Edith playsuit for ages, but then spotted one on Ebay and got it for just £30. Their Venice Beach stretch cotton dress has always been one of my faves. It’s like a stretchy, flattering skirt with a loose t-shirt attached. It’s so easy to pull on, is super comfy and always looks really lovely.

Staying with hush, if you want something loose, cool and flattering, check out the Albee. If you were a fan of the Alvers dress, this is the updated version. Still with that lovely asymmetrical hem. This one comes in a gorgeous leopard print as well:

Topshop has up to 50% off dresses until Monday and there’s a good selection of black summer dresses. You do have to wade through a bit of weirdness, but I loved this shirred flippy dress, which is such a bargain at £17.10. Just pull on and go!

Arket currently have 15% off dresses - I love this easy, linen wrap dress (also in shocking pink if you’re a colour fanatic).
