Thoughtful gestures with Elizabeth Shaw - plus win a hamper!
It’s been absolutely lovely to be home after spending the last six weeks travelling! I feel compelled to do loads of ‘nesting’ to make everything extra cosy. Yesterday I spent the day shopping, cleaning and tidying, and it makes me so happy to have cupboards full of food, freshly baked pumpkin spice cookies in the kitchen (recipe coming soon!) and fresh linen on the beds. Can you believe it’s only a week until the clocks go back? I’m so delighted to have been asked to team up with Elizabeth Shaw for a fab, feel-good project to celebrate the extra hour and use it for truly thoughtful gestures. I’ve also got yummy Elizabeth Shaw goodies to give away!
What will you be doing with your extra hour in bed? Elizabeth Shaw want to encourage us all to do something really lovely when the clocks go back on 30th October and I think it’s a wonderful idea. Autumn is a great time to practice hygge, the Danish concept of warmth, family, congeniality and cosiness, and we’ve decided to embrace the extra hour to do something really thoughtful for someone that deserves it (or, actually, even someone that doesn’t deserve it!).
It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture either. When I was away on the Royal Princess recently, we had a special dinner where we were all presented with a beautiful fresh red rose. I knew that we were disembarking the next day, so as I walked back to my cabin, I gave my rose to a lady that was walking along with her husband. Her face lit up and I felt SO good! My extra hour will be used to cook some delicious home made soup for Mr E to take to work (he often comes home and says he hasn’t eaten as he was too busy to get out to buy lunch), and some baking to give to our lovely postman who is so sweet to us and always goes the extra mile saving letters and parcels for me because he knows I’m often away.
I’ve also got a delicious hamper stuffed with £50 worth of Elizabeth Shaw chocolates to give away to one lucky commenter chosen at random. All you need to do is comment below and tell me what thoughtful gestures you’ve received, or bestowed upon someone else, or even some lovely ideas for the rest of us to try, to encourage us all to use our ‘free hour’ to do something thoughtful for someone else, rather than just have the extra hour in bed! It might be calling someone you haven’t spoken to for a while (I’ll be checking up on my Mum and Dad - I haven’t spoken to them for far too long), paying for someone’s parking, offering to walk a neighbour’s dog… anything kind and thoughtful.

Elizabeth Shaw hamper
Usual English Mum competition rules apply. Giveaway closes on 31st October at midnight.
My thoughtful gesture for the extra hour was to use that time to text old friends saying “hello” and contacting friends who I don’t usually have time to contact. It was lovely hearing back from friends via text! It’s good to put the effort in and keep friendships alive! 🙂
Passing over any goodies I bake or food I cook my lovely neighbours, sharing is caring 🙂
I brought the other half breakfast in bed as he had done a 15 hour shift the day before
Thank you for halloween treats
I got some sweets for the trick or treaters and ran out so we used my boyfriends chocolate and lollies so the kids werent dissapointed
My last thoughtful gesture was to give a colleague at work a prize I won as she had no wireless speaker, and I had won one, and she used it in her shower and loves it!
I visited my elderly neighbour for a cuppa and a chat she was grateful of the company and so was I. It was great to hear all of her old stories x
My sister bought me a Dolce Gusto machine for my birthday this year to help me wake up for work in the morning!
I saw a young girl drop a £10 note from her purse once, I tapped her on the shoulder and gave it back to her. She was delighted and very happy!
I once drove 150 miles out of my way each way after a long day at work one night to help my Mum fix a punctured tyre at the side of the roadside. She was really struggling and very stressed and was very relieved to receive my assistance!
On visiting my husband’s mother we visited her 96 year old neighbour who is waiting for a hip replacement operation and offered to change her clocks back (no digital clocks here and also nearly took the extra hour to do it so many clocks!) but know she was incredibly grateful!
I’ve actually paid someone’s mortgage recently for the month so they wont be homeless as they have recently lost their job and haven’t been paying it. Had to take a loan out to do it though :-(. Oh well, life can be hard but you should always help someone less fortunate out if you can 🙂
Having recently suffered an ectopic pregnancy, my dearest friend who lives on the other side of the country sent me the most amazing box of brownies from a company called ‘Blue Basil Brownies’. When we lived closer together we would always go round to each other’s homes where one of us had always freshly baked some sort of sweet treat. I’ll never be able to put into words to her how much her gesture meant to me.
We have been helping our neighbour with their rubbish because they are recovering from an accident.
A few years ago, my mum and dad very kindly bought me a new (used) car. I had an old Punto, that was a bit knocked about, but I still could have got a couple of K for it. My friend had her car stolen that same week and her insurance wouldn’t cover it - I couldn’t justify selling mine when I had a new one, so I gave her my old car for free. It made me feel so good, as I chose friendship over money. x
when I was poorly while shopping and had to go home,my daughter went back to the shop and bought what I had intended to buy.
I would be taking the dog out for an extra hour and maybe take a picnic too. XXX
I’m still talking to my partner who when I asked what he thought to me losing 6 stone remarked “Cars a lot easier to run now, less weight” !!!!!!
I offered to have a Halloween Party on Saturday for my friends children so they could all have the afternoon off and do something lovely.. The kids enjoyed the party and they parents enjoyed their short break 🙂 I was very tired after!
My friend is collecting clothes for a homeless charity, so I sorted through our clothes and donated a lot.
I’ve become very minimalist recently, which meant clearing out books, clothes, household items etc. I’ve given it all to my local charity shop 🙂
‘Just Because’ Flowers always seem to be appreciated
My favourite type! x
I’ve been helping a friend who suffers from anxiety and she sent me a card as a thank u will the places I want to travel to on to help e remember my goals
I’ve swept up all the leaves that have fallen in my Dads garden, and generally had a tidy up. It’s a bit cold outside for him, and the garden was looking a bit autumnal and messy, so have got it back to its best again!
when we go out shopping for the day we always pop into the nearest supermarket or greggs and buy a few warm sausage rolls and some bottled drinks as well as some little snacks and treats and hand them to the homeless. I was homeless myself at one point and you never know when you may end up in that situation so make someones day a little easier 🙂
I always buy extra cat food so I can give it to the cat sanctuary near where I live, they do such an amazing job there & even though it’s just a little gesture I know that it’s greatly appreciated 🙂
my friend did all my running around for me when I was holed up with a broken leg for months on end.
I got a food bank put in Morrison’s in Weston-super-Mare
I help my work by baking cakes for a fundraising event even though I’m currently on maternity leave and due to move house. My eldest two kids helped us bake too. We normally claim back expenses but I didn’t as it’s for Ronald Mcdonalds houses they have houses near hospitals for parents, so they can be near and not have to drive home every day ect. As some travel miles for treatment for children . Thankfully I havnt had to us it but makes me happy knowing all money we raise really helps alot of families.mcdonalds do many events throughout the year to help
I always donate food to the animal charities or mony in the collection boxes, ive opend doors for the older person ,or let someone with only a couple of items at the supermarket till go in front, cut the neighbous hedge or grass I,m a sensitive person who am always polite little things mean a lot to some, delightful prize giveaway such a treat
i took some pressies over to my littie niece and watched her for the day - allowing my brother and his girlfriend to go out and have some time together.
When we have a big roast dinner I always do an extra plate for my elderly neighbour as she never cooks a roast for one and always says no to eating with us
I once won some new baby goodies and gave them to a friend in need who had very little. It all helped so much and she was so grateful.
I have been helping my elderly neighbour with her housework and shopping as she can’t get around as she used to.
On my way home one evening a lady stopped me and asked me if I wanted the bunch of flowers she was carrying. She said she had just left her job and got so many flowers from others the day before and would I like these. She didn’t know me from Adam. Very nice gesture.
now that my little boy has grown out of some of his toys, we have had a clear out to make way for father christmas to bestow some christmas gifts. So we took a sackful in to his old nursery so the other children could get as much joy out of them as he had. pass on the giving spirit its contagious and nice to think in some way you can enhance the lives of others by helping just a little
My son is so thoughtful, i had a migraine the other day and he asked me if i was ok and got me a cold pack from the fridge. After a while, he came back into me and asked if i needed anything else!
The most thoughtful gesture I’ve ever received was when I first had my daughter and my friend and neighbour brought around a homemade cottage pie. I opened the door and she literally just handed me the dish with a smile saying - we had some leftover and thought you might like it. Best Cottage Pie ever!!
My Dad gave me my Grandad’s gold pocket watch recently, I remember him having it as a kid, and it’s a great keepsake/heirloom that I will pass down to my little lad one day. I’d share these chocs with my Dad, cheers!
I helped the lady next door reset her boiler. I’d watched my husband do it before and hoped for the best!
My sister booked my in for (a much needed) manicure the other day, she’s always doing nice little things like that so I’d love to win the choccies for her.
So many lovely people sponsored and supported me when I was running a half marathon recently- I was raising money for Bliss, a charity close to my own heart
My friend was destressed because her young african grey parrot kept nipping her and her husband’s fingers very hard & drawing blood. I agreed to have him for a week as we have a parrot too. I managed to calm the youngster down and taught him to be gentle by offering treats and, with lots of patience, he became a reformed character that responded well to my friend and her husband. They carried on doing the training I had done with him and, so far everyone’s happy. I believe he was a ‘naughty teen’ just trying to rule the roost!
I Found a phone yesterday in car park by shops. Tried to track down owner via a fb message on her phone. It was clear she was Polish. An hour later she called her phone and she came to our house to collect it. She was very emotional and couldn’t believe we tried to track her down. From her screen saver I could see she had children and I said to My partner that I bet she wouldn’t want to lose the pictures. Turns out i was right and she was more bothered about that than the cost of her expensive phone. Her and her husband then returned with a huge bunch of flowers, a lovely bottle of red wine and a Next voucher for £30 (despite us saying we didn’t want anything and were happy she had been reunited with her phone) what a lovely couple!
My friend was about to move into a rented house near me. Just before she moved in, vandals got in a wrecked the downstairs. The landlord put in new flooring and repaired the radiators, but didn’t fix the kitchen. She arrived to find just a sink on its side against the wall. I, with the help of my husband, completely fitted her a kitchen. It wasn’t without its dramas, with wrong and broken units being delivered, but she now has a brand new, functioning kitchen and I feel so proud to have helped her out.
It doesn’t sound much but today I gave a DVD that I won to a friend who will really enjoy it.
I can home to find out my new neighbour had kindly placed my bins out whilst I was away - doesn’t seem like much until you have no where to pop your recycling
My friends son had been having a hard time at school so we suggested she send him down to us during half term and spend time on the farm. He went home one happy boy.
A lovely lady entertained my little girl for me when I was struggling on the tram with a stroppy 4 year old, a crying baby and a very overloaded pushchair - it made my day!
My daughter started high school this year and for Science this last month she’s had a substitute teacher. The kids had been giving him a hard time since he was new so my daughter left a note on his desk saying she’d enjoyed his class and for him not to worry about the other kids messing around. I found this out because he called me to tell me how touched he’d been by her thoughfulness and to let me know how kind she’d been. I’ve never been more proud of my daughter! <3
My friend came round last week with some of her clothes that she no longer wears! Some people would probably take offence but I just love receiving hand downs! I do the same with her too, We have been friends since we were at school and have the same taste in clothes! Not only did she bring me clothes but she baked us a lovely cake to have with our tea!
Bringing cakes round is lovely but more so when my friend took time out to bake for us!
Hubby gets up every morning before me to Make a Cuppa and cereal ready for when I come down
My adult daughter flew off to Benidorm this morning and I am spending this afternoon ironing all her work uniform for her for when she comes home 🙂
I saw someone drop a £10 note on the pavement and and I ran after them to hi from it back. It made me feel good doing a good deed,
I had a bad migraine the other day and my 17year old son offered to go to the shops for me. This was really kind of him as he has Asperger’s syndrome which means he struggles with social interaction. If I won I’d share this with him…one good turn deserves another x
I live alone and my neighbours across the hall occasionally knock the door with those foil tins you can get and they fill them with herbs and spices that you need to make a meal, and the written instructions and ingredients on the top for me to follow, sometimes they include their home made chili paste from fancy dehydrated chilis, and other times when they know I’m feeling a bit down they bring casserole or a sauce, I can honestly say it makes my week xx
I saw an elderly friend at a wedding who seemed very down, so popped round the next day with some flowers and strawberries - she said it rally cheered her up
Helping an old lady cross the road!!
I made a cake for my family as a treat for them to thank them for what they do.
I had my mum and her husband to Sunday dinner just because I wanted too
My son brought me breakfast in bed this morning,it was from mcdonalds though but it was greatly recieved xx
I was in Tescos recently and I had my 1 year old and my 3 year old. My 1 year old was screaming and trying to get out the trolley and my 3 year old kept running off. To say I was stressed was a understatement. About 10 mins later a tesco work saw me and approached My 3 year old. She bent down and said to him that how running off is dangerous and how mummy is trying to get yummy foods for him. She then said if he was a good boy at the end of the shop she would have a surprise for him. So after that my son was as good as gold and I could focus on my 1 year old and the rest of the shopping. The lady found us and true to her word she gave my son some Halloween chocolate.
I know it isn’t a major thing but to me it was just what I needed and really was the loveliest thing to help me finish shopping.
Thank you
An older ex-collegues mum passed away not so long ago, leaving her on her own as she never found the right man and never managed to have children of her own either. Her mum was her life so the effect of her passing away suddenly had quite an impact on her.
I’ve been inviting her out on day trips with the children, inviting her over for meals and visiting her loads.
She’s really become part of the family and is looking at things in a more positive way now.
She is not just an ex-collegue now, but a best friend and part of the family.
If I won, I’d be sending these to her as she loves chocolate.
I suffer with Anxiety and I can’t leave the house on my own. My partner literally comes everywhere with me otherwise I would be stuck indoors! xx
We were on holiday in Devon and had paid for 3 hours parking in the local town but where only there for 40 minutes so we gave our ticket to a family that has just come into the car park. They were so grateful..
I bought everyone in our house cups of tea this morning and made them bacon sandwiches while they all lay in bed.
I was really quite ill recently and my neighbour would appear with homemade soup, pasta dishes, stews even desserts and homemade scones, she is such a diamond so it would be lovely to surprise her with some delicious chocolates x
I took my mum to st.lucia on a break away, as everything was going wrong, soon as we got back, it turned right round! 🙂
A lovely thing happened to me recently. I bought a new vacuum cleaner more suited for our house and lifestyle than the one we had, and put the old one at the gate with a note on saying “I work, if you can use it please take me”. It disappeared within the hour which was great. But then next day I opened the front door to find a box of chocolates on the doorstep with an anonymous note thanking me for it!
Last We contacted age concern and asked if they have anyone who lives alone that would like to join our family for Christmas dinner they did and lenord was lovey and will extend the offer this year.
I gave my brother a kidney as he was in desperate need for one. Well I had two so I didn’t want to be greedy!
I’ll be treating my children to an extra hour of fun as they’ve both been poorly this half term with a bug and I think they deserve to end the holidays on a high!
I have been helping my elderly neighbor do her cleaning while her hubby is in hospital
After I had given birth and returned home a number of my friends had given me I.O.Us at the Baby Shower and in the first few weeks my husband and I had meals delivered, our shopping done for us, a photographer for the first baby photos, our house cleaned for the first month…there was so many things which were greater in value than material gifts.
I receive lots of lovely gestures from my family and friends and I like to pay it forward whenever I can - I helped a lady who was struggling with her luggage at the airport just yesterday!
We’re having our bathroom done - the plumber drilled thru a water pipe - twice -but has replaced our outdoor tap as a goodwill gesture - very much appreciated
I ‘ relayed ‘ a lovely act of kindness this week. A homeless lad very kindly helped me find the hospital last week and walked me there . I went back a couple of days later to find him with a load of hot meals for him and his friends . Something I will be doing regularly.
My mother in law is 75 and still cooks and cleans for herself and my father in law who is 80. I’m going to go there with my little boy in the morning and we are going to make them breakfast, lunch and get them a takeaway for dinner while we tidy the house from top to bottom. They have done so much for us in the past 8 years and I’d love to pay them back in some way. This Hamper would be lovely for them too xx
I paid for someone’s train ticket last week
I’m usually the taxi for my niece and nephew
Looking after both guinea pigs and rabbits including taking them to the vet and feeding them.
Im going to spend a few hours with a good friend who has recently lost her Mother.
Having recently split up with my boyfriend, I’ve not really been leaving the house - so my best friend wouldnt take no for an answer - she came and picked me up, made me shower and get ready, and she took me out to get my hair and nails done, and treated me to lunch afterwards. It certainly cheered me up.
I made a meal for my wife on Thursday it was a surprise meal and she had no idea of what it was. It was a tomato and lime pickle chicken curry with naan breads
I look out for my neighbours, always ready to lend a helping hand, I often just randomly buy a little extra treat with the weekly shop to surprise them with.
My colleagues at work came round with lunch as I’ve been off sick for a while. It meant the world to me and cheered me up! We’re a great team, I’m really lucky!
I left my keys in my front door once and the post lady popped them back through the letter box for me with a friendly note - I thought that was lovely. If I win I will share them with my lovely post lady 🙂
I live in a village which has a lot of elderly people living here. As always I will do what ever I can for them including shopping or just to sit and have a chat. Just this week I had a lady come and visit me because she felt like she just needed to get out of her house and go somewhere safe as she put it
spent most of last week helping a friend move home. seemed to take forever but we finished each night with a takeaway to cheer ourselves up
My best friend who is only 26 has recently had an operation to remove 2 cancerous tumors, I am spending as much time as possible with her aswell as helping her do some fundraising. So far it seems the operation was a success and hopefully she will make a full recovery 🙂 x
I looked after a neighbours dog when they had to leave on an emergency for a few days. It was also good company for my dog 🙂
I took up the gym a few months ago and was complaining in work about my hands being sore from the weights. My boss went out of her way to buy me some weight lifting gloves. She’s awesome 🙂
Every day I see thoughtful gestures in how lovely some people are to my daughter. She is severely disabled. I love it when people in hotels, bars and general social areas acknowledge her., She is a happy sociable girl, who needs constant supervision, On holiday she roamed around the hotel bar and lounge with Daddy close behind and plonked herself down with complete strangers, most thought is was lovely and chatted to her and not ignoring her, she is not able to talk but her big smile says it all. So gestures in life are small things that can and do make a difference. I always make and effort to talk to a disabled child. Some people stare at her wheelchair but most say hi. Little things mean a lot.
When my youngest child started school last year, her teachers sent home a little pack which included a lovely poem about growing up, some tissues, some chocolate and a tea bag. It was very thoughtful and I still love to read the poem.
a lovely surprise birthday
When I was nursing my husband I had an unexpected Tesco delivery organised by my cousin (from Austria!) There was wine, chocolate, steak, posh biscuits, ice cream and strawberries - all feel good stuff which was so thoughtful it made me cry!
I got chatting to an elderly couple on the tube a couple of months back who were travelling over from Australia to visit their daughter for the first time. They got off at the same stop at me, and although they had a postcode weren’t really sure how to make the final leg of their journey. Given they had suitcases and had clearly been travelling for a long time, I ordered them an Uber on my account, waited with them for it to arrive and them wished them well when it did.
I was in hospital the other day and the lady in front of me did not have enough money for her parking so I tapped her on the shoulder and gave it to her- she looked stunned 🙂 My neighbour found out that I wasn’t very well and not sleeping properly so she popped over with a lavender candle and some sleep spray for my pillow which was so kind and thoughtful of her 🙂
Won a £100 at bingo. Knew of someone really struggling and about to lose their home. I gave it to them anonymously and although it wasn’t a huge amount I know it made a difference.
I once found a beautiful plant outside my front door with a lovely message. To this day I never knew who sent it. I volunteer my services every Friday at a local community centre and I have paid someone’s bus fare before when they didn’t have enough change!
It was my daughters 20th birthday last week and after she had opened her gifts she presented me with a ‘self made invitaton’ to afternoon tea with her at the Hilton.Had a lovely time such a thoughtful gesture.
My 1st wife divorcing me thank you
An elderly gentleman was in the queue at the local supermarket, & the cashier thought the £10 note he tried to pay with was a forgery so took it into the back to check with a Manager. On his return he told the gentleman it was counterfeit & he could not have it back. I watched as the gentleman’s eyes filled up, & he asked what about his groceries as he had no other money. Not his problem the young cashier stated! Needless to say I paid the £10, & it brightened my day to think the elderly gentleman had not suffered at the hands of the person who passed the forged note, or the callous attitude of the cashier either.
My landlord just offered to drive me back from hospital next week after I’ve been in for a biopsy.
Normally at home, it’s me who does all the cooking - and I mean ALL the cooking! But I have a stinking cold at the moment…yesterday my other half ran me an amazing bath, and he did the cooking while I was in there. Dinner ready for me as soon as I got out, AND he did the washing up later!
My niece and sister-in-law bought me a lovely surprise gift after I organised a trip to London with them.
I take random photos and Dad always likes them … so today I have bought a photo frame from a charity shop and am going to give him a pressie of one of my photos placed inside it. He will love it, and I will get a kick out of doing this for him. Charity benefits, Dad gets something of mine to show off (!) and I get to feel really good. Win, win, win!
My dog of 10 years was taken ill last week and I had to make the decision to let him go. I was so upset when I arrived home from the vets. My neighbours saw me arrive home and they helped me bury my dog in the back garden, as I was unable to do this on my own due to my health conditions.
Ooh loads, I feel very lucky. My hubby recently gave me £100 towards my car fixing bill. My best friend made our wedding cake for us recently. My neighbour moved my bin out of the way last night so I could get back on the drive as the bin men had left it clocking my drive. I feel very grateful!
I baked a surprise birthday cake for my friends , friend. eight year old boy .The family had a difficult year. .I baked a football cake for him ..His eyes lit up when he received it .Happy moments are the ones we share. x
Its fairly simple but meant a lot - I was bought flowers by a lady!! Very sweet and a first for me!
Personally recently someone at Argos couldn’t fit their purchase in the back of the car and I noticed so offered to stick it in mine and follow them home to get it there!
When we were away on a long awaited holiday my mum came round to our house and cleaned it for us so that it would be lovely when we got back.
I always help my dad out, take him shopping, help him do his chores, he likes the company too

The most thoughtful gestures was i took my mother inlaw this year to a Austrian spa, because she so tried and need a well earned break
I won a bike in a competition a yr ago and it remained boxed in my shed, while out walking my dog i noticed numerous flyers attached to lamposts asking for help in finding a stolen bike. The man had had his stolen and went to a lot of trouble putting up all these flyers and offering a reward. I noted the number down and contacted him asking if he had recovered his bike which he hadnt and he didnt hold out much hope. I said he could have the brand new bike i had in my shed, he came round soon after and took the bike still boxed and brand new and was so pleased, it made me feel really good 🙂
I won a night away in a 4 star hotel in Southport & gave it to my sister as a thank you for all she does for our parents. I can’t do what she does as I’m disabled & live 130 miles away from them but she’s amazing & does so much for them. She keeps saying she’s just ordinary every time I tell her how amazing she is but I think she’s extraordinary
My mam took to me on a 2 night spa break for my 30th, there was champagne and chocolate in the room it was brilliant!
One of my good friends recently had a baby girl and was struggling with sleepless nights her little one has colic and her husband is away a lot. Knowing how tough having a newborn is at the best of times I wanted to let her know she’s doing a fab job and give her a pick me up. So I sent her a huge parcel of pamper goodies and a few bits for her daughter along with a card telling her how fantastic she is doing. She wasn’t expecting it at all and said it made her day 🙂
I sit with my father-in-law, who has Parkinsons/dementia,for 2/3 days a week, so my mother-in-law can have some ‘me time’ and go out.
As it was half term this week, my daughter and I made chocolate chip cookies (her favourite). I took some into my office yesterday and my colleagues gobbled them up. They were happy and I was too as they stopped me eating too much sugar!!
I took my mum to see the lion king in london for her 60th last year
Sometimes I have to work in London and stay with my mum. I work pretty late hours, but no matter what time I get in, there’s a hot meal on the table. No matter how many times i offer, she will not let me cook. She says it’s her way of showing how much she loves me. I would love to win this for her.
When I arrived at work wet from my commute (I cycle) a colleague sitting near me brought over a lovely hot coffee for me which made my day
When I broke my arm, my little boy made me a cup of tea every morning until my plaster came off, he’s such a sweetheart
I only use Social Media for fun and keeping in touch with family. However, I was having a particularly “down” moment a couple of years ago and, against my own judgement, put an indulgent status online. I said that I would love a cup of tea and a hug but I was on my own and out of milk. About 15 minutes later my doorbell rang. My dear friend handed over a pint of milk, gave me a hug and said she was always there for me before getting in her car and leaving. I’ll never forget it.
I don’t drive and rely on buses to get around. I always make a point, where I can, of helping the elderly with their shopping bags when getting on the bus. It always amazes (and annoys) me that others rarely help …
My neighbour took out my bins and then brought them back when I wasn’t well.
At my daughter’s wedding a couple of weeks ago, my daughter and new husband took time out of their special day to thank me for everything we had done. Presented me with a lovely bouquet, which was a lovely thoughtful surprise.
I help at Rainbows and Brownies on a Friday night 🙂 helping girls feel confident to succeed!
gave my nan individually wrapped chocolates for christmas to give her lots to open
When a client comes back into Citizens Advice, where I work as a volunteer, and says “You made a difference. Thank you”
i was told at a young age…be nice ..if you can help help…I do what I can when I can for anyone
Took my daughters washing home daily to do when her washing machine broke 3 days after she had her third child by cesarean, I also helped her with her 2 & 3 year old sons everyday for two weeks when her husband had to go back to work and she couldn’t lift them.I’d share this prize with her as she has had a mastitis abscess recently and deserves a treat for all the help she gave me after her dad died suddenly 2 and half years ago
My sister certainly deserves a whole heap of credit, just before my son was two, she spent 6 months working overseas and came back for a two week break half way through. She was supposed to spend it relaxing with her partner and friends, but instead of that she drove three hours to come and help me look after my daughter as my son was very poorly and required a couple of nights In hospital. (He’s totally fine now!!!!)
A man asked me for a £1 so I gave him a fiver. It makes me laugh everytime I think about it. He kissed me on the cheek and gave me a bear hug which seemed to go on for ever. He had no teeth and probably hadn’t washed for a while. I must admit I was startled and not being a touchy feely person I did have a grin on my face all the way to the shops.
Cooked lots of home cooked meals for my auntie when she lost her husband.
My friend recently left bags of groceries at my front door when I was ill with flu and unable to get out, she rang me to apologise for not coming it to see me (this was due to her own medical condition which makes it dangerous for her if she came in contact with anyone with an infection. I was so touched, when I had recovered I met her for lunch and attempted to give her the money for the shopping, she refused to take it, even though I know she was not in a financial position to do this. I will some how ensure I repay her kindness.
my car broke down and I work 25 miles from home. I couldn’t afford to get it fixed till pay day 3 weeks away so my friend who lives just round the corner from where I work let me borrow his car till I got mine fixed
my neighbour helped me clear my blocked drain - he deserves a medal and a treat.
I buy coffee and sandwich for homeless people on my way into work in London
I’m no saint but it feels good to do good! If I’m in a queue I have been known to let the person behind go infront.
When my Mum finished chemo therapy, I’ve organized a birthday party for me and it was such a joyous occasion for the whole family 🙂
Received a teddy and big balloon from my son after I recovered from an operation, something so simple just helped cheer me up so much 🙂
Walking across the hospital carpark and noticing that I had a good few hours left on my ticket, I looked around and saw a elderly lady about to put coins into the meter. I sprinted over to her in the pouring rain and managed to grab her attention before she inserted the coins and passed her my ticket. She was very grateful and i made that my good deed of the day 🙂
Somebody brought my wheelie bin in for me
I decided to organise a family get together for my great aunt’s 60th wedding anniversary. She had said how they had enjoyed a recent family get together but didn’t want to cause a fuss for their anniversary. I took over and made a few calls, booked a venue. My aunt now says the event had given her a new lease of life and is delighted at the attendance and how it’s made her feel. Shows how a little gesture and oomph to get people together has a huge affect, demonstrating our love.
I recently won a small amount of money with a Heart Fm competition found on prizefinder. I talked it over with my husband and we decided to offer it to our lovely neighbours as he is off work at the moment after being involved in a bike accident. As my husband and I said to them when we went round to tell them what we were doing “what you don’t have you don’t miss” and we both live by the motto treat others as you would like to be treated!!
When I was poorly I discovered my neighbour had left me some freshly laid eggs on the doorstep and a big slab of chocolate cake (never moving house!)
I placed some extra grocery items that I had bought in the food bank box at the local supermarket
MY SISTER TRAVELLED SEVERAL MILES TO SEE ME WHEN I WAS UNWELL. SHE BROUGHT SOME READY MEALS AND SOUP TO KEEP ME GOING . THIS WAS VERY LATE ONE EVENING AFTER SHE HAD BEEN AT WORK ALL DAY
We arrived back from holiday yesterday and my mum had made a pie and some parkin so I didn’t have to start cooking after travelling.
Looked after my partner at the hospital today and now treating him to the cinema
You star - you deserve the treat yourself!
I came out of ahospital appointment knowing that my pay and display parking had over run by almost half an hour. Some kind soul had put their car parking ticket - which still had an hour to run - under my windscreen wiper. I wish I knew who had done it so that I could have given them a box of chocolates to say thank you. ❤️
That’s so lovely!
I recently found a feel-good note taped into a copy of the Metro on the London Underground. I spoke to a firend who said there’s a whole Instagram account dedicated to this unexpected, yet wonderful gesture 🙂
if lucky the items i win usually get passed along to family members, especially the little ones!!
I had a spare fuel voucher recently which I gave to the guy in front of me in the queue at the checkout. It was the last day the voucher could be used so no good to me. He was pleased as he got 10p off per litre of petrol.
My elderly neighbour hasnt been well lately so I baked him a cake and took it round on Saturday
someone kindly stopped to help me when car broke down ,went to get fuel for me then returned with fuel and problem sorted, a true gentleman
Myself and my son were in a cafe one day and sat near an old lady. As we got up to pay, we also paid for the old lady’s breakfast as well, without her knowing, we hoped it made her smile X
I do love a pay it forward or thoughtful gesture, and haven’t really done one for ages … other than being an awesome mum etc. But my best friend paid for dinner last night as a belated b.day present, so that was nice and I reckon that counts x
Ah that’s pretty lovely, Kate!
