I’m not really a party person. You won’t catch me wafting around swanky soirées in diamonds and heels. I prefer cosy evenings in and quiet dinners out with friends and family, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like to dress up over the festive season. I love a bit of sparkle, and I think great quality party wear pieces are some of the few wardrobe essentials that don’t really age, making them great investment items that you can wear year after year. You know I’m a bit partial to the lovely stuff that hush make, so the new collection of hush party pieces are a win/win for me. For this weekend’s wishlist, I thought I’d show you a few of my favourites.
A gorgeous midi skirt
I love a midi. I think they’re just so versatile. I’ve come to rely on a couple of them in my wardrobe: a lovely soft bronze pleated skirt (I think from Next?) and a leopard pleated one from ASOS that both look just as good with a tee and Converse on holiday as they do with some black ankle boots and a cashmere roll neck. They’re effortless because, like this one, they’re elasticated so you don’t feel all done up and squished in (I hate that feeling). This Ceres metallic skirt has a lovely bronzey metallic sheen to it and it’s a little bit sheer (it’s lined to the knee). I adore it styled exactly how hush have done here, with a slouchy black jumper and metallic boots. I think it would look amazing with my leopard boots too.
A silk cami
Another one of my faves and such a multitasker. Brilliant with jeans, perfect with leather (or faux leather) leggings – just add a long, fine knit cardigan if you’re worried about your bum – and also great with a plain black skirt (leather or otherwise). This one is in a delicious looking leopard print, in a flattering loose fit. At £85 it’s an investment but it’s endlessly versatile and will last the years, doing just as much duty on holiday as it will every party season.
A nice top
If you want a bit more coverage, may I suggest this lush leopard tee? I mean it’s essentially a loose, boxy t-shirt, but it’s so much more than that, with rich colour, texture and just enough sheerness to make it a bit sexy (it’s got an integral cami). It’s a relaxed fit that looks perfect with jeans (and who doesn’t love the classic ‘jeans and a nice top’ combo for going out?) and it’s borderline bum covering if you want to wear it with those leather leggings.
A statement dress
And if you’re after a statement dress, there’s a stonkingly beautiful maxi in the same devoré material. I’ve totally fallen in love with this one but I’ve got some reservations about the sleeves – I think I’d have to try it on.
A silky blouse
Lastly, what are we thinking about this Tilly pyjama blouse? The colour’s not my normal black but it’s fabulously festive in red and I’m thinking it could turn into a proper wardrobe staple – lovely with jeans, but also fab with black culottes or wide leg trousers.
Ooh, and talking of shopping, don’t forget that Boden have 25% off everything full priced all weekend, including free delivery and returns over £30. Have a good one!
