Picture the scene: it’s Friday night, we’ve both had a hectic week and we’re slumped, finally, in front of the TV, bra off (me), joggers on (him), and both boys out with friends. It’s the perfect opportunity for us to head out to dinner together, just the two of us. We discuss options and various restaurants we quite fancy, but it would mean getting dressed and putting make up on and driving/taxis and whatever and there’s a good film we both fancy on the telly, and delicious wine in the rack. What to do? We don’t have the luxury of many takeaways that deliver here, plus that option can be expensive (and frankly not always great), and although I love to cook, sometimes the thought of getting creative in the kitchen when I just want to chat and sip wine with Jim while we catch up after a busy week means I’d love an easier, but still delicious alternative. This week we’ve been trying The Supper Club range, a collection of premium luxury ready meals new to Sainsbury’s, so we popped the Red Thai Chicken Curry in the oven instead.
We love our home. We both work really hard and an awful lot of that hard-earned money has gone on creating a lovely space for us to relax in, and it’s actually really lovely to take a breath, pour a glass, light a candle, snuggle up and just enjoy it with each other. And honestly? Staying in shouldn’t have to mean loads of work or tons of money and I think it’s about time that a really good quality range of meals that feel really indulgent was created – well done, Sainsbury’s.
Verdict? Well, they were nothing like we expected. First of all, the portions are decent, and secondly, they’re baked in the oven (I don’t know why, but in my head I always think of ready meals as ‘stab and nuke’ microwave jobs). The Red Thai Chicken Curry was full of flavour with nice chunks of chicken, topped with fresh red chilli and coriander, with a creamy sauce and just the right amount of heat. The rice was fragrant with coconut and perfectly cooked too. We also tried The Supper Club range lasagne, which was delicious (and a big hit with the boys, who now feel that they might like to stay INin with us a bit more, especially if the food’s going to be this good. Oh).
But seriously, I think this could become a bit of a regular thing for us, and I’m going to commit to doing it far more often: curling up with a glass of wine, my favourite people and a delicious meal that someone else has cooked, with love, for me. Who needs to go OUTout when staying INin is this good?
If you fancy giving them a try, The Supper Club range, featuring modern classics made beautifully, launches exclusively in Sainsbury’s this February.
A huge thank you to Sainsbury’s for sending The Supper Club range and also a beautiful selection of their gorgeous homeware (have you seen Sainsbury’s home stuff recently? I don’t have one near me, but I’ll be making the effort more often if these lovely things are anything to go by).
