As an early adopter of the slogan tee (yes, I had an original ‘FRANKIE SAYS RELAX’ as well as an oversized ‘CHOOSE LIFE’ which I wore tucked into my rara skirt with my jelly shoes) I feel that I’m highly qualified to choose the best slogan t-shirts. The trend shows no sign of slowing down, and if you’re a late adopter (perhaps the horrors of ‘my <insert relative> went to <insert place> and all I got was this crummy t-shirt’ memories are still too raw for you), I promise it’s totally fine to wear one now, evidenced by the fact that they’ve popped up everywhere from Primark to Prada. And while I don’t really want to walk about with ‘u okay hun?’ or ‘BABE’ emblazoned upon my chest, there are some really nice slogan t-shirts about. I promise. Here’s a little roundup of the best slogan t-shirts about at the moment, from high end to bargainous.
Last week, on my Viking Sea Caribbean cruise, I think I came across the perfect sightseeing outfit: the hush culottes that I’m always banging on about (so comfy, so flattering, so easy to wear), teamed with this really lovely H&M slogan tee. It’s a really nice, fitted shape, so perfect for tucking in, and the slogan is properly embroidered so it looks really special. Washes well too. Love it. And such a good price too.
I love Anthropologie and they have a great selection of cute slogan tees, but as usual, they’re not the cheapest (although they do tend to be great quality). This yellow striped tee has a lovely slouchy feet and the sweet little bow detail at the front is just adorable:
Boohoo have just dropped their Zendaya edit (no, me neither), and while a lot of the stuff is slightly too mutton for me to get away with, I was quite taken with this white tee with a pale pink ‘Be’ slogan. It’s actually listed as ivory, but looks white in the pics. It’s a sweet little piece and a bargain for a tenner.
ASOS have tons of slogan tees, and while some are a bit too out there, there are a few really lovely ones. Love this Neon Rose relaxed fit ‘étoile’ print tee:
You probably can’t do a roundup of clothing with slogans without including Bella Freud. I’ve always wanted one of her 1970 jumpers, but they’re waaaay over my budget. This lovely ‘love for you’ tee was created for International Women’s Day. Not cheap at £95, but gorgeous, and 100% of the profits go to Women for Women International.
You know a trend is über cool if even Victoria Beckham is jumping on board. I loved last year’s ‘fashion stole my smile’ tee better, I think, but if you want to be completely SS18, you’ll need ‘It’s a dark but happy place‘. Instantly recognisable and utterly chic, but totally dependent on whether you want to spend £95 on a t-shirt.
I can’t do a slogan roundup without mentioning my faves at hush. You can’t beat a stripe and this tee has extra ooh la la! with a French slogan too: c’est si bon. It’s so good! (no, literally, it’s so good).
Oh and since we’re talking about slogans, I feel like I need to give the final mention to the awesome Boden ‘jump in’ swimsuit, Not a tee, I know, but so flattering and just perfect for sunny days on the beach. Here’s me, in a pool, proving that it’s great at holding everything in. Fab with a pair of denim shorts too. Happy weekend, all!
