So you know a while back when I was giving you the recipe for the spiced banana loaf, I started to tell you about Mr Tails leaving home and me making a new friend? Quick recap: Mr Tails, our Maine Coon cat, fell in love with Justine, from round the corner, and her cat Fluffy, and decided he wanted to move in. He was at home less and less, and eventually just didn’t really come home at all. Justine felt terrible and came round to tell us that despite chucking him out a gazillion times, he just kept coming back. Long story short, we decided that it was better that Mr T became Justine’s so someone had proper responsibility for him and we made it official and swapped paperwork, etc. We’re a bit sad, but y’know, Tails just doesn’t like being here and loves being there. You know what cats are like, you can’t force them. Lyra is a big part of this, I think, and she jumps all over him and chases him. Not her fault, but y’know…
Still, the upside is that even though I don’t see Tails much any more, I’ve now become quite friendly with Justine – we’ve been texting a bit and – in the spirit of my positive life plan (no. 6: friendships), we decided to get together and have a coffee. Justine suggested The Grove – the most gorgeous of gorgeous hotels nearby, so we headed off in her very swanky convertible for tea and cake. And – despite me being horribly socially awkward and a big scaredy cat about doing new things and meeting new people – it was lovely.
Someone once told me that people are either cats or dogs, in that dogs = ‘like me! like me!’ and cats = ‘why should I like you?’ I think that’s totally true, and I’m definitely a dog. Still, I turned down my inner dog a bit and it turns out we have loads in common (shopping, eating, lovely things, cake, handbags, laughing a lot, disliking bitchy people) and the conversation was easy and fun. We had delicious cake, wandered around the lovely gardens in the sunshine and basically spent a couple of really pleasant hours together.
I won’t put a picture of her up here because I’m thinking that it may be weird (it’s weird, right?), but yay for new friends! And cake! Yay for cake too 🙂
What about you? Dog or cat?
