I was chatting with a friend recently about swimwear. Just about this time of year – when you’re still debating whether to bare your lily white pins in a pair of shorts in case you dazzle a passing driver and cause some sort of accident – is, weirdly, the best time to buy your new swimwear. The shops are still full of all the lovely bits. But, woe betide that you leave it until a couple of weeks before your summer holiday – it will all be sold out and you’ll be left with the choice of a teeny tiny string bikini or a boring black sporty swimsuit left in your size. Happily, I’m here to help and yesterday I took a little sortie to Milton Keynes to check out the swim and beachwear from M&S. There aren’t many places better to buy swimwear – their fit is always good, the prices are reasonable, the fabrics wash well and don’t fade in the sun, and they always have nice matchy matchy bits too. Read on, then, for my best buys:
Have you worked out your personal style? It’s a tough one. I think by now, in my mid-forties, I’ve kind of sorted out roughly what suits me and what doesn’t: I like a mostly minimalist style in a palette of grey, black and white, and I tend to stick to classic styles, with the odd bit of leopard thrown in for good measure. What if, though, you could have access to your own personal stylist? Would you be interested in maybe shaking up your look? I’d love to be braver, especially at Christmas! I was intrigued and delighted to be invited to try Tuesday from M&S, a new, free, personal styling service that aims to provide style inspiration (with no obligation to buy).
Okay, so as far as I’m concerned, it’s definitely autumn now. Regular readers will know I’m an absolute autumn obsessive. I always think of it as a time of new beginnings. It’s a ‘new notebook month’, not just because of the new term connotations, but because it’s maybe a time when we retreat indoors a bit more, giving us time to reflect, take stock (see my positive life plan if you’re interested in exploring this a bit more) and to welcome a bit of softness and comfort, even – dare I say it, more joy – into our lives. Autumn is snuggly jumpers, soft throws, cushions and flickering candles (and let’s not even get started on comfort food, shall we?). The change to cooler weather also brings the opportunity for a bit of a wardrobe refresh – retiring our summer pieces and exploring new collections from lots of our favourite brands, and – wow – the M&S autumn winter 2017 collection has so many nice things – I’ve taken you through a few of my favourites.
Okay, so I’m aware that I’m publishing my weekend wishlist on a Thursday, but there’s a good reason for this: I wanted to give you a heads up about the return of the legendary M&S Summer Beauty Box! It’s always hugely popular and I think last year sold out within hours, so it’s really important that you get in there quickly! The offer is: spend £40 across clothing, homeware and beauty and get a beauty box gift – worth £105 – for just £10. The offer is valid from today until 26th June 2017 (but it’s doubtful whether stocks will last that long). The M&S Summer Beauty Box contains all sorts of gorgeous goodies, so if you’re planning a little M&S shop, this is the perfect time to do it!
Ahhh, this is so lovely. So Marks and Spencer contacted me recently about their new campaign: Decades at School celebrating over a century of helping parents get their kids ready to go back to school. They’re showcasing their back to school archives, focusing on the evolution of everything from uniform to packed lunches.
Well hello there! I’m finally home after a busy few weeks of travelling: Paris, Barbados and finally Gran Canaria. I’ve had an awesome time and I’ve got loads to tell you and loads of recommendations, but before this summer is completely over, I wanted to tell you all about the products that worked really well (and some that didn’t). So here goes with my summer holiday skincare roundup:
One of the best things about Christmas is the dressing up. Whatever we’re doing at Christmas, we always make a big effort (although I’ll never quite live down the reindeer jumper and mustard cords of Christmas long past). M&S have teamed up with Disney Channel’s ‘Get the Look’ stylist Electra Formosa to produce a serious of brilliant fashion videos: Styled By Electra. They’ll be broadcast on Electra’s YouTube channel, Electra Loves and will show Electra styling the M&S kidswear Christmas photoshoots, teaching all our gorgeous girls to look amazing this Christmas.
This one is all about bows: one of the biggest trends this Christmas:
