So as you know, I’m currently in the process of getting a tattoo removed. Melissa, my lovely therapist, is taking it nice and slow, taking care of my skin, making sure I don’t get any burns or blisters (I’ve heard horrific stories) and minimising the pain with a cold air thingy that really takes the edge off.
I was interested to see that Disappear does other treatments including laser hair removal, and a non-invasive anti ageing treatment called Meso Vytal. The before and after pictures in the clinic really caught my eye. I’m starting to see fine lines around my eyes. And hey, I’m a realist – I’m in my mid 40s and know those lines are caused by smiling. And I like smiling – I also quite like my face, it’s all mine and I’ve lived with it long enough to get attached to it. But if I could have my face with fewer lines that don’t go away when I stop smiling, that would be fab. And Melissa said that the Meso Vytal, which uses a gentle needling technique to introduce hyaluronic acids and peptides into the skin, reducing wrinkles and stimulating collagen, would be perfect for me. The treatment produces a lifting effect while the ‘hexapeptides interfere with the formation of wrinkles’.
Anyhoo, although it involves teeny tiny needles, it’s not painful as such. I wouldn’t say it was relaxing either – let’s go with ‘uncomfortable’. It’s certainly a bit eye-watery on the more bony parts of the face like the eye sockets and jaw – it vibrates and feels a bit gritty.
The results were amazing.
It’s hideous taking really close up photos of yourself with no make up, but we tried really hard to take photos in exactly the same place and with exactly the same light before and after. I think you’ll agree that, even though my face is still red straight after the treatment, the fine lines have been significantly reduced. The skin felt quite tight, but wasn’t sore, and straight away I could see that my whole face looked plumped up and smooth.
Getting out of the car at home, I bumped into my neighbour who said ‘ooh, have you had a facial? Your skin looks amazing’.
Two hours later, and the redness had completely disappeared, leaving soft, plump skin that felt amazingly hydrated. My skin actually felt a lot firmer to the touch and I continue to feel like my eyes are lifted somehow too as the upper lid is firmer and more plumped as well.
24 hours later, and the skin just around my eyes feels a tiny bit tender, but when I looked in the mirror this morning I couldn’t believe it – rather than the usual, slightly crumpled me, a fresh-faced, glowy person looked back at me. And was grinning. A lot.
There’s a special after-care serum that you apply, but really not much aftercare apart from treating your skin gently for a while and keeping up with a good SPF30, which frankly, you should be doing anyway.
At £68, I think the treatment is extremely good value for money. Melissa recommends a course of 6-8 sessions, and says you get especially good results if you combine this treatment with the ClearLift non surgical facelift that she offers. I’m trying that next!
Melissa’s clinic, Disappear Ltd, is in Milton Keynes. If you’re anywhere near, I definitely suggest you book in.
