So after seeing so many Facebook comments from friends that had gone to see Guardians of the Galaxy and loved it, we decided we’d have to go and see what all the fuss was about.
We travelled a little further afield than usual and visited the Cineworld in High Wycombe. We’re really picky with cinemas and Sam had visited this one a couple of times and said it’s really good. The cinema is right in the centre of High Wycombe, right next to a huge multi-storey car park, so parking’s no problem, and has the advantage of having luxury seating in all 12 screens. We grabbed a large tub of popcorn each (there’s a Baskin Robbins ice cream place as well).
In the actual cinema, the seats are really comfy, and we also noticed that the tiers are deep enough that if a tall person sits in front of you, it doesn’t spoil your view!
Without spoiling the plot, this latest Marvel film stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, a bit of a rogue who was abducted from earth as a child and now roams the galaxy as a bit of a space pirate. He steals a mysterious orb which brings him all sorts of trouble, and he ends up joining forces with a band of fellow galactic misfits: Rocket (a raccoon-like creature played by Bradley Cooper), gorgeous green Gamora (played by beautiful Zoe Saldana – you’ll remember her as Uhura in Star Trek), Drax the Destroyer – a massive, muscly warrior, and the hilarious walking tree called Groot (played with a surprising amount of humour for a tree by Vin Diesel). The film is full of action and adventure, loads of great jokes and is visually very clever – the special effects are excellent, and the final scenes will have you rooting for these unlikely friends as they take part in an epic battle.
The film is listed as a 12A and there are a few naughty words here and there, but generally it’s very funny and perfect for kids. We laughed out loud at several bits of the film (something that NEVER happens to me – the last time I laughed in the cinema was at We’re the Millers)
Our verdict? Interesting, endearing characters, loads of action, visually incredible and a fantastic soundtrack. An easy 4 out of 5!
