I think I told you a while back that I’ve been working with Nat and her team from The Hair Secret in Berkhamsted to save my poor, frazzled hair. I love being blonde, but I find it quite damaging on my fine hair, so Nat’s been using Organic Colour Systems colour on me, which is a lot kinder (and also ethically sourced and cruelty free), and suggested that I try their new Organic Colour Systems Rep-Hair Follicle Strengthening System: a great range of products designed to strengthen hair and reduce the amount of hair that falls out. I was keen to give it a go.
To give my hair a rest, and make it look richer and shinier, we also decided to take me back to my natural colour. Last time, we put a lot more brown in my hair, and I really liked the effect – it felt flattering and seemed to warm up my face, so this time, we really went for it. One of the problems with my damaged hair is that it doesn’t ‘grab on’ to colour very well, so I know it’s going to take a bit of time, but I’m really prepared to put the work in, using the Rep-Hair system, and taking care of my colour. I think one of the pictures that really made me think ‘right, enough is enough’ was this one from House Festival a few weeks ago. It’s a lovely, happy memory, but look at my hair, it’s completely frazzled, split and damaged. I decided then and there that I had to step away from the blonde:
About Organic Colour Systems Rep-Hair Follicle Strengthening System
Everybody loses hair every day (I think around 100 hairs is normal), but loads of things can cause you to lose more: stress, ageing, illness, and in my case, probably a bit of over-processing and sun damage too. The Rep-Hair system combines four steps: the Strengthening Shampoo and Nourishing Conditioner for use every other day, a night-time scalp treatment and a vitamin supplement.
How I got on:
I really like the shampoo and conditioner. You just use them every other day, leaving the conditioner in for five minutes. Both shampoo and conditioner are deliciously minty-smelling and really nice to use. Then, every day before bed, you apply the scalp treatment, which is just a pump of watery liquid which you apply and gently massage in to your scalp (it doesn’t make your hair greasy or anything, it just disappears). Lastly, I just take the natural supplement daily with water.
I’ve nearly finished the Rep-Hair system pack now, and last week I headed back to The Hair Secret to see Natalie. Honestly, she was genuinely impressed with how much better my hair was. The Rep-Hair has really improved the condition and it definitely feels thicker and softer (I can actually put it into a ponytail that doesn’t look like a little rat’s tail), and I’ve noticed loads of new hairs, especially around my hair line.
Next, it was time for my colour. Nat started by giving me an Organic Colour Systems Power Build treatment to help my hair hold the colour, then Nat used a freehand balayage technique to blend in my dark roots and create a much more natural looking colour. I was surprised just how much it complimented my skin tone. After trimming a tiny amount off the ends of my hair, Natalie was even kind enough to give me a makeover in Bloom Beauty Bar inside the salon, with some gorgeous, natural looking makeup too.
My hair’s so much softer, and I’m really loving the colour. I’m definitely going to keep going with the Power Build products and I’m delighted with the head start (see what I did there?) that the Rep-Hair system has given me too. Here’s to thicker, shinier hair from now on!
Thanks, as usual to everyone at The Hair Secret for looking after me so well, and also thanks to Organic Colour Systems.
