If you’ve ever thought of booking a holiday with a big group, either for a family get together, or with a group of friends, it can all seem a bit daunting. Villa holidays are ideal for larger groups – sharing the cost means that you can book something bigger and more special, and more importantly, unlike with a hotel, you can have the entire place to yourselves. Oliver’s Travels asked me for my top tips for choosing and booking a villa for a group holiday:
If you can’t get together, get ‘virtually’ together. It’s best to make a central ‘hub’ for discussing plans, so create a group Facebook chat or a round robin email, just so that everyone’s kept updated.
Once you’ve agreed to go on holiday together, then next thing to sort out is dates. Be aware that if you’re all coming from different areas, school term dates may differ. Make sure everyone can get the time off work/school, etc before booking anything!
Discuss your wishlist
Have an honest chat about what everyone likes in a holiday – which country, which area, whether you’d like to be by the seaside, like Aureliano, right by the sea on the Costa Brava and perfect for kids, walking distance to the local shops, restaurants and harbour and tons of things to do:
…or in the country, like gorgeous Villa Palazzo, a beautiful rustic villa set in its own lawns in the heart of Tuscany:
And what sort of villa you’d like – a traditional country style holiday villa with a beautiful pool in the South of France like stunning Bastide Bellgarde,
Or maybe something a bit different like Villa Trullo – an ancient, round house with a conical roof located in the heart of the Salento Region in the boot of Italy.
Research travel, and don’t forget transfers
Once you’ve made a shortlist, double check that everyone can get there if you’re travelling from different locations (check somewhere like Skyscanner to make sure everyone can fly in to the destination from their chosen location. Research your transport to the villa. Will you need to hire a car (or cars?) or is there adequate public transport? Try to synchronise your arrival times as much as possible. This will make transfers easier (and cheaper!) for everyone. And don’t forget that Oliver’s Travels provides a free concierge service for everyone booking with them.
Get it booked!
And once you’ve finally made a decision – book early. You’re more likely to secure your first choice of villa, plus you’ll have all that time to look forward to (and shop for) your fabulous holiday.
Why do ordinary?!
