Seeing as my word for this year is simplicity, and my goal is to apply this to all aspects of my life, I’ve been thinking about my beauty routine (and more importantly the money I’ve wasted over the years buying various hideously expensive face creams and other bits that just weren’t right for me for one reason or another). One of the things I’ve learned is that most beauty counters will give you a little bit to try at home if you ask nicely, or – in the case of M&S – often have trial pots on display, saving yourself from costly mistakes, but honestly, unless something completely radical comes out, I’m pretty happy with my beauty routine as it is right now. A great sign of a good product is one that you keep buying over and over again, and I thought I’d share my top five M&S beauty repurchases with you – especially as some of them are on spesh at the moment!
Honestly, I’ve given up counting how many pots of this fabulous night cream I’ve bought over the years. I’ve written about it before, but it really is my favourite night cream. The texture manages to be both light and rich at the same time, it sinks in easily and I always wake up feeling like my skin is magically plumped up. Love it. Plus there’s 20% off everything in the Formula range at the moment, which brings the price down to £17.60. Stock up while you can.
I guess it was Clarins who really started off the whole toner business for me. I’ve always quite liked the refreshing feeling of swiping toner around my face after cleansing and before applying my serum but this brings it to a whole new level. This gentle skin resurfacing wonder feels gorgeous, smells deliciously orangey and is easy to use thanks to the (recyclable) packaging (you just push your cotton pad gently down onto the top of the bottle and the correct amount is dispensed). Maybe I should start using it on my hands, as mine looks about 150 years old in this photo, as I honestly feel that my skin is brighter and clearer when I use this every day (I didn’t take it to China, and it could be a coincidence, but my skin felt dull and my moisturiser didn’t seem to sink in as well). Regular readers will know I adore REN, and this beauty is one of the reasons why. It’s £25, but it’s a nice big 250ml size, and it lasts for ages, plus if you purchase two REN products at the moment at M&S, you can choose from a free Instant Brightening Beauty Shot Eye Lift 15ml, or Keep Young & Beautiful Anti-Ageing Eye Cream 15ml, each worth £32. BARGAIN!
Who doesn’t love a bit of me-time with a cup of tea (or glass of wine), face mask and their hair up in a nice conditioning treatment? I wonder when Philip Kingsley first brought out the Elasticizer? It feels like years – and I remember being really baffled as to how something you shampoo out could actually do so much good, but it never ceases to leave my hair silky without weighing it down. If my hair’s feeling really rubbish, I might even sleep in it, it’s that good. The only difference I’ve made over the years is that now I don’t use the shower caps pinched from hotels (single use plastics – bah), and use one of these glamorous things instead. Also, there are now a couple of delicious new scents, including my favourite, the coconut breeze, which essentially smells of holidays. It’s £33 for a big 150ml pot which, again, lasts ages, plus they do smaller tubes which are perfect for travel.
I don’t have a bath any more (rookie mistake – one we’re going to correct this year), but my favourite way to use this delicious balm (generally when I’m away, when I always take the small size with me) is to massage a thick layer over my face then sink into a hot tub, leaving it to work its magic, then wiping off with a warm flannel just before getting out. It never fails to leave your skin feeling soft and thoroughly cleansed, has a lovely smell – kind of orangey and fresh – and is really effective at removing every scrap of make up too. It’s very similar to the Eve Lom cleanser but I’m not a fan of the smell (am I the only one who thinks it smells like hospitals?) Not cheap, but the kind of thing I save up my M&S vouchers to buy.
I guess this one could be a little surprising, but if you’ve tried these little magical under eye gel masks and you’ll know why I’m a bit addicted. Peel off the backing and press these cooling eye gels to your under eye area and in no time at all your eyes are bright and de-puffed, fine lines are magically erased and you just look like you but healthier, somehow. I love them for flights (I just pop an eye mask over the top), and if I’m ever doing a face mask I’ll use these under the eyes at the same time. Also – top tip – if you’re sunbathing, wear them under your sunglasses. Keep them in the fridge (or against your G&T for a while if you’re on a plane) and they’re twice as soothing. The small pack is £14 for four pairs, or buy the big pack and get 8 for £25.
What about you? Agree? Anything else you rebuy in M&S that you can’t live without? I’d love to hear from you. Have a fab weekend xx
Disclosure: this post is part of a paid partnership with M&S, however, words and choices are my own, and I rebuy ALL these products with my own money.
