So last week, I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening event of the brand new Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney World. I’ve got tons to tell you about new Toy Story Land, including a video showing you all the new attractions and more, but until then, I thought I’d share some of my favourite experiences, dining venues and yummy treats that will add so much value to your Walt Disney World holiday. Often, it’s the little things that people tell you about that can really make a difference to your Disney experience so here are a few that made my trip extra special this time. I smiled so hard writing this and remembering all the fun we had – so grab a cuppa and get comfy while I tell you all about a few of my favourite things at Walt Disney World Resort, Florida (obviously in addition to raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens).
I love, love, love Minnie Vans. Last time I visited they had just been announced, and this time it was wonderful seeing them out and about on the roads around Walt Disney World. These cute red spotty beauties are driven by Walt Disney World cast members and can fit up to six people. They come complete with two car seats too, and will drive you anywhere on property that you want to go for a flat fee of $25 at any time from 6.30 in the morning to half past midnight. The Minnie Vans are bookable via the Lyft app on your phone. Make sure you treat yourself at least once during your stay!
Visit Wine Bar George at Disney Springs Visit Wine Bar George at Disney Springs
Obviously eating is one of my favourite things at Walt Disney World, that goes without saying. I adore Disney Springs – it’s such a gorgeous area to spend time shopping, eating, drinking or just chilling. You can watch a film, go bowling at Splitsville, or just grab an iced coffee and wander. I was really excited to find that Wine Bar George is now open – I’ve heard so much about it, so I popped in with a couple of friends to check it out. With more than 130 different wines by the glass (starting from a very reasonable price point), there’s something for everyone here. We weren’t really eating, as such, but ordered a few of the small plates: hummus that comes with deliciously soft, warm flatbreads; crispy mac and cheese bites, and spicy olives. We also had major food envy at the next table who had ordered a huge charcuterie and cheese board that looked divine. I’ll definitely be back.
Spending the day at Typhoon Lagoon
When booking a Disney holiday, I think sometimes people forget that there’s so much more than the three main parks. There are two water parks at Walt Disney World: Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. I’ve visited both but I think Typhoon Lagoon is my fave – it’s so pretty, I love the huge wave pool, the brilliant water slides (Miss Adventure Falls is my favourite) and the lazy river is just the best way to spend a scorching afternoon in the sun. Add to that yummy food and delicious frozen cocktails and you can’t really go wrong!
The Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast at Trattoria al Forno on Disney’s BoardWalk
Having been there a couple of times before, I already knew that Trattoria al Forno, the hearty Italian restaurant on Disney’s BoardWalk, served a delicious breakfast, but this time we experienced the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast: a table service character breakfast complete with visits from the likes of Flynn Rider, Rapunzel, Prince Eric and, of course, the ever-sassy Ariel. There’s loads of fun and music, tables full of delicious pastries and fresh fruit (that’s before you even order your choice from the menu) and of course lots of time to chat and take photos with your favourite characters. We absolutely loved it.
Watching the fireworks from California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
I’m a huge fan of Disney’s Contemporary Resort. I love the chic styling, and the fact that it’s so different to all the other Disney Resort Hotels. It’s so central, you can walk to the Magic Kingdom or catch the Resort Monorail that goes actually through the A-frame of the Contemporary Tower. Whether you’re staying at the Contemporary or not, I highly recommend booking (well in advance) for dinner at the resort’s signature restaurant, California Grill. Not only is the food amazing (yummy sushi, fresh fish, enormous steaks), but there’s an outdoor viewing area where you can go and take your drink and watch the evening Happily Ever After show (make sure you check whether the show is taking place that evening first!). Friends have also told me that the brunch there on Sunday is phenomenal, so I’m definitely going to book in to do that next time I’m there.
Other yummy frozen things that deserve an honorable mention
Desert pear lemonade slushies at the Golden Oak Outpost in Adventureland are the cutest and most delicious slushies in the whole of Magic Kingdom, plus they’re the prettiest purple. Plus plus, you get a cute reusable Mickey straw with your drink.
Oh, and how can I do a post about my favourite things at Walt Disney World without mentioning Dole whip? It’s a delicious, frozen pineapple dessert that’s served either in a sorbet form, or in a more ice-creamy soft serve style (my favourite is when you swirl the two together), or even as an ice cream float. You can get them in loads of different places, either in the Magic Kingdom at Aloha Isle in Adventureland, the Harambe Marketplace in Animal Kingdom (which serves alcohol, so you can get your Dole Whip with a shot of rum… YUMMY!) or at several of the Resort Hotels, including Disney’s Polynesian Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and Disney’s Pop Century Resort.
And finally – how many times do you get to sip a delicious frozen beverage right next to a pretty bird that’s exactly the same colour? Well, pop into the pool bar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and you can grab a frozé cocktail made with Meiomi Rosé and Tito’s Handmade Vodka, then sip it by the flamingos. Day made!
