Recently, my Mum send me a cracking picture of the two of us stuffing our faces on the beach in Tenerife years ago. Conclusive proof that my love of food and cookery comes straight from her!
What do you remember from your childhood? My memories all seem to be odd little food flashbacks. We were lucky enough to travel a lot as children, so I remember picnics of Spanish oranges, crusty rolls, and cheese on the beach, and biting into massive tomatoes and letting all the juice dribble down your chin, and huge flat pans of paella (and hoping for the extra yummy crusty bit from the bottom), ice creams on the pier and fish and chips on the seafront at Sandbanks, helping her to spread butter on malt loaf for the cricket teas, and watching her make EVERYTHING from scratch: cakes, pies, puddings, Scotch eggs, jam roly poly…
I’m sure we did other things apart from eat, but I obviously have a very selective, food-based memory! If I could give my mum anything for her birthday, I’d whisk her back to Tenerife for Sangria and paella in the sun, but until that’s possible, it’ll be something like Clinique Happy, or some sunny yellow roses (her favourite)…
If you want to buy your mum flowers, I’ve got a code for 25% off Mothers Day Flowers at Debenhams. Just use DFBLOG25 (this is valid for everything apart from the Flowers By Post range. I can vouch for these as I was lucky enough to be sent one of their rose bouquets and they were absolutely beautiful – they arrived safely packed in beautiful wrapping. I’ve had them five days so far and they’re still going strong:
I also love the more affordable things in the luxe ranges. Take Crème De La Mer, for example. Admittedly gorgeous but unfortunately out of range for most of us. The Lip Balm, however, is a much more affordable £42. I gave it a go and it’s really lovely – it smells delicious and isn’t at all greasy. If you like a more ‘slippery’ lip balm it might not be for you, but the packaging is very posh and it would make a lovely gift.
Or how about the beautifully presented Jo Malone London Pomegranate Noir bath oil? There’s something iconic about the black and white packaging, and the 30ml size is £17 as opposed to the smallest cologne which is £40.
And lastly, if you rush, you’ve still got time to order online from lovely Snapdragon, who sent me this fabulous personalised coffee mug:
