For someone who’s been focusing on decluttering and editing their wardrobe, I seem to have been spending a lot of time either shopping or thinking about shopping! One of the things I told you about when I wrote about the new season trends was the blazer. Whether it’s boxy and oversized, in pale pink (I absolutely love Alex from The Frugality in this sweet pink one) or big fat baby cord in 70s brown (and coordinated with matching trousers too), they’re absolutely everywhere this season. I’ve been doing tons of research as I wanted to hunt one down in a classic blazer shape with a tweed or check, and I think I found the perfect one. Ladies and gentlemen I give you… my new Boden blazer!
I’m a casual dresser at heart, and no matter how many gorgeous floral maxi dresses I lust after (answer: a lot), day to day you’re probably going to find me in jeans and a t-shirt. I’m trying really hard to step out of my comfort zone and away from my everyday stretchy Levi’s skinnies to embrace some new jean shapes, but it’s early days – I need to do some serious leg work and try on tons of shapes to find the perfect pair to suit my curves (I often find they’ll fit on the hips, but then gape at the waist).
Talking of curves, the fit of my new blazer was all-important when I was searching. I didn’t want anything too short (I don’t find it flattering when things end right at your widest part) and I didn’t want double breasted as I tend to wear them open (I have to say, though, the one button fastening is extremely flattering as it gives you a lovely cinched in waist). I wanted it to be roomy enough to fit a jumper underneath as the weather turns more chilly, and I wanted it to be great quality too.
The Boden Bath British tweed blazer fitted the bill on all counts. In keeping with my new capsule wardrobe philosophy of only buying really special pieces that last, it’s an investment piece so I really wanted something design-led and brilliant quality (it’s 100% wool). I surprised myself by going for the navy and ivory as I really wanted a check pattern (the navy is so dark, you can easily wear it with black). The 12 fitted perfectly, and I love the silky London print lining too.
It’s just so simple to throw over jeans and instantly smarten up your outfit. I absolutely love it. If you want a slightly darker one, I suggest you go for the navy and grey marl herringbone one, which was a very close second choice.
I can see it getting loads of wear, and I’m just a little bit in love with it. What do you think?! Also, dyed my hair and hate it – argh.
Oh, ALSO also, if you’re browsing the website, you might want to go and check out these beauties. Plus, as a little thank you, if you’re a new Boden customer, click through one of these links and end up buying something, use code: 6T2C and you’ll get a lovely free gift!
