Living in the country, I see horse riders all the time, and I’m often struck by how equestrian style is actually quite a good look: think those tall, sturdy but stylish riding boots, warm polo necks and fitted jackets. The thing with equestrian gear is that it’s all quite sleek (I guess you can’t have your clothing flapping around you when you’re riding a horse?) so it tends to be well fitted and quite flattering, while still .
Here are the bits of equestrian style I’m definitely stealing for my dog walking kit:
Dublin boots are great looking and will offer much more in the way of warmth and support than a standard pair of wellies. Unlike wellies, they let your feet breathe while keeping them dry, so they’re great for trudging around muddy fields. I just love the look of them. These are on my Christmas list:
Fur gilets are everywhere in the shops at the moment, and while I won’t be wearing fur out in the field, I actually quite like the look of a padded gilet (don’t discount them as ‘yummy mummy’, I’m talking dog walk here, not school run). They’re perfect on mild days and look great over a hoody.
For colder days, a belted wax jacket isn’t too bulky, gives you a bit of shape AND keeps you warm and dry. What’s not to love?
And don’t worry, I’m not going to tempt you into a pair of jodhpurs, because skinny jeans will tuck into your boots just fine. Just add a check shirt and you’re good to go!
