There’s something delightfully festive about a Harrods Hamper. Seeing as we’re all getting into the Christmas spirit here at English Towers, I was very excited when Harrods offered us the chance to try one out. We chose ‘The Sloane‘, and it arrived (you can track your order online, and it arrives within 3-5 working days) well protected and carefully packaged. The hamper, a glossy square dark brown cane basket with a faux leather embossed lid is huge – rather over huge, if I’m honest, for its contents, which I’d probably describe as all the ingredients for the poshest afternoon tea you’ve had in your entire existence.
As well as beautifully packaged, delicious cakes (apricot and ginger, and a tea loaf with almonds), there are tinned all-butter biscuits (heavenly dark chocolate chunk and cherry, and, Charlie’s favourite, Clotted Cream), plus delightfully over the top tins of tea bags and Signature Blend Coffee too.
Fancy a tipple with your afternoon tea? No problem at all. The hamper contains a decadent, citrussy bottle of Harrods Grand Reserve Champagne – bursting with fresh green appley zing, this Champagne is a fabulous glass of fizz (having tasted it, I think I’d save it to serve as a delicious aperitif on Christmas day – perfect with smoked salmon), plus a bottle of Harrods Chianti Classico (plus a corkscrew to open it) – with rich, dark cherry fruit, a nice bit of pepper and that lovely earthiness. I quite like Chianti with cheese, especially blue, so I’d serve this with my post-Christmas dinner cheese board. Yum. Talking of cheese, there’s some lovely plum and port chutney in the hamper too, as well as some Wiltshire ale mustard, a match for that Boxing Day ham. Other jars include raspberry and cassis jam and apple and damson jelly. There’s a pretty tin of very nice chocolates too.
And what to do with that gorgeous wicker box afterwards? I’m thinking it would make the perfect storage for Christmas decorations!
Our verdict: beautiful presentation, incredibly good quality products and lovely selection. Could you buy similar products, pack them up and send them yourself? Of course you could, and much cheaper too. Would it be the same as receiving a Harrods Hamper? No way. There’s nothing quite like it.
