Our girl’s foodie weekend away in London
So I forgot to tell you about the weekend before last! My buddy Erica and I decided we’d plan a girly weekend away. A foodie weekend in London suited everyone, so Erica came down from Scotland with her gorgeous daughter Erin and we headed off on the train to London.
First stop was our apartment for the weekend, the rather lovely Cheval Harrington Court in Kensington. Just a stone’s throw from South Kensington tube, and right next door to loads of bustling bars and restaurants, Cheval Harrington Court is a collection of 33 short-let and 14 extended stay serviced apartments with a 24 hour concierge service. Apartments range from open-plan to one, two and three bedrooms. We felt rather cosmopolitan as we walked along the very smart road, right opposite the lovely Ampersand Hotel:
…and when we opened the door to our apartment, we were rather bowled over. Here’s why. For some reason I forgot to take a picture of the lounge, but it was identical to this one, except that it had a wonderful little balcony with views right over the rooftops and as far as the London Eye and the Shard:
In our excitement, we had to have a quick flump on the bed:
And obviously made time for the obligatory bed selfie:
The apartment had two large bedrooms, one with what I can only describe as a triple bed (?!) with a gorgeous en-suite, and then another bedroom with a large double bed, plus a main bathroom, kitchen and open plan dining/lounge area. The views were spectacular:
We decided to head off for a late lunch and spotted Comptoir Libanais. The food looked amazing so we squeezed in and ordered pomegranate and orange blossom juice to sip while we looked at the menu. As we were snacking, ready to eat out later, I chose a halloumi flatbread with a salad. It was absolutely scrummy – soft and savoury. We did, however, have quite serious food envy looking over at the next table, who had some delicious-looking lamb koftas and falafels. I’ll need to go back.
After this, we headed out to Covent Garden where we wandered the stalls, did a bit of shopping and watched the street performers before strolling to Leicester Square. It was busy and bustling and just lovely to wander around with the crowds. Last stop was back to Kensington where we grabbed a late dinner at a Bella Italia just around the corner from the apartment. I’ll be honest, we weren’t expecting much, just somewhere child friendly that served cocktails, but we were really impressed. The antipasti were delicious:
and the cocktails were pretty good too!
We took a gentle stroll back to the apartment to tuck Erin up in her enormous bed while we had a glass of wine on the balcony and took in the wonderful view:
The next day we took a fabulous ‘cupcake and macaron’ tour of London. More on this very soon!
Prices at Cheval Harrington Court start from £170 per night + vat for an open plan one bedroom apartment. For further information and bookings, please visit www.chevalresidences.com or telephone +44 (0)20 7341 7052
