Your birthday song

So this is really cool (thanks, Nats!).  What was #1 on the day that you were born?  Mine was the sensational Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel, top of the charts in both the UK and the USA on that day.  Hubby’s was Sandy Shaw, ‘Always Something There to Remind Me’ but then he’s, like, really old.  #1 was Take That ‘Back for Good’ (great track!!!|) and #2 was Run DMC vs Jason Nevins, ‘It’s Like That’.

USA #1 singles

UK #1 singles

If you’re younger or older or from a different country you’ll have to get Googling.  Come on, then, what was your Mam listening to in the labour ward?

Distressing to discover that the British charts didn’t start until three years after my birth!
However this is more than compensated by the USA number one on the day;- “Cruisin down the River(on a sunny afternoon)” by Blue Barron, now there is a song I can relate to!

  2. Susan says:

You Keep Me Hangin’ On, in the USA, by the Supremes.

    Christ I’m old now.
    LOLOL

  3. English Mum says:

Martin: Blimey, you’re OLLLDDDDD  Cool song, though x

Susan: Excellent track too. Wow, we’ve all been lucky so far. Come on, who had The Birdy Song? :)

  4. Donny Osmonde, puppy love. Bleuch. My saving grace is apparently while up the duff my mother went to a Captain Beefheart concert, I’m told I kicked so much she had to leave.

  5. English Mum says:

Thrifty: Oh dear. If ever there was a song less suited to you I can’t think of it! Captain Beefheart sounds a bit scary though x

  6. Lola says:

A Hard Days Night, The Beatles, in both UK and USA. Fitting, for my mum at least.

  7. sheepworrier says:

    Oh. Sweet. Jesus…

Bonnie Tyler – Total eclipse of the Heart!

  8. Wee Jen says:

Oh lord! Dancing Queen for me (entirely inappropriate, I have no co-ordination).

In The Summertime by Mungo Jerry for Himself. Which actually is quite appropriately laid back.

  9. Tuli says:

US Chart was Baby Don’t Get Hooked On Me by Mac Davis

UK: Mama We’re All Crazee Now by Slade

My b-day is fast approaching. Wonder what the song will be this year.

  10. English Mum says:

Sheepy: Oh that’s funny. Her hair scares me in that video ;)

Wee One: Dancing Queen!! That explains the jigging about to My Baby Just Cares for Me then. LOL!!!

Tuli: Slade? The sprogs would approve. Very rockin’!

  11. Mary says:

As I am very old (compared with you lot) my mother heard the Angelus bell and the midwife said I should be called Angela!
    They called me Mary!

  12. Natalie says:

…The Pipes & Drums & Military Band of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards – “Amazing Grace” and from the USA…A Horse with no name…I will ahve to google South Africa and let you know that one too I guess…

  13. English Mum says:

Lola: Sorry, you got caught in the dreaded spam filter. Yes, very appropriate!

Mary: Oh that was very contrary of them. Fnar!!! (sorry, couldn’t resist it) x

Nats: Bloody hell, you definitely got the short straw there. Although I have a strange affection for A Horse with no Name, I have to admit x

  14. Jay says:

Oh wow … how fascinating! My hit for the UK is Guy Mitchell singing Look At That Girl. How old-fashioned that sounds now!! LOL!

The US chart featured a comedy record ‘St George and the Dragonet’ No idea what that was like at all!

  15. omg…mine is welcome home-peters and lee, personally never heard it. quite apt for the day I was born though. just thankful it wasnt the gary glitter song..lol

  16. Baino says:

Who the Hell is Frankie Lane? Apparently he sang a song called A Woman In Love which was No 1 in 1956 . . now that’s not old, that’s ancient! I’m not playing these silly games ever again.d *sobs uncontrollably*

  17. English Mum says:

Jay: Ooer. It obviously wasn’t very funny or we might have heard of it!!

Tracey: Too right! Mad Uncle A used to go to lots of Gary Glitter concerts – a fact he now seems to be a bit embarrassed about!!

Baino: Oh, it’s a great song. There there, don’t cry *pats sympathetically*

  18. Hails says:

Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin – “It’s My Party”

It’s my party, and I’ll cry if I want to… perfect, eh?! :)

  19. Becs says:

UK – Survivor – Eye of the Tiger

US – Chicago – Hard to say I’m sorry.

Thats cool I like those :)

  20. English Mum says:

Hails: Perfect!!! I used to love that song!

Becs: Aw, Chicago, makes me all nostalgic. Blimey, you’re YOUNG! x

  21. SUSAN B says:

Mine – US – was “Music, Maestro, Please” by Tommy Dorsey (!) – I’m too ancient to be on the UK charts too – stop your blubbering, Baino – you’re still wet behind the bloody ears!!!

  22. English Mum says:

Susan: Now, now girls – let’s not fight about who’s the oldest. Heh

  23. Gee thanks EM….I am the same ‘OLD’ as your other half!!!

My brother named me apparently he liked a line in a song in the charts at the time.

  24. English Mum says:

Queenie: Hee! What, you mean your real name isn’t really Queenie? What a let down!! x
