So as a regular visitor to English Mum *cough* it’s fairly likely that you have an appreciation for good quality writing *cough cough*…
I bet you love a book right? What do you love? Let me guess: you love a bit of crime fiction? No? Romance? Hmmm… travel? Maybe you just like bonding with your tiddlers over Winnie the Witch…?
I bet you even carry a book around with you occasionally don’t you? You do? I’m practically psychic!
So as the book lovers that you undoubtedly are, you might, then, have noticed the news about the brand new Kindle Fire, from Amazon. This sleek and elegant device can be carried about with very little fuss. It also has the capacity to hold 1,100 books, which would otherwise take up an enormous amount of space and frankly be a bit difficult to balance too.
But y’know, times is ‘ard and Christmas is a’coming (okay I’ll stop now) and you may find it hard to justify spending £129 on a Kindle. However, the lovely, good-looking and very kind-hearted travel team at Directline Holidays have come to your rescue and are giving you the opportunity to win one, RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW! (Well not right now, obviously, they’d have to post it and stuff…)
To be in with a chance to win, all you have to do is leave a comment and tell me the first book you’d download onto your new Kindle Fire. New commenters: don’t worry if your comment doesn’t show up straight away as it has to be approved. The winner will be drawn at random after the closing date of Saturday 10th November. No cash alternative. Open to entries from EVERYWHERE!
This competition is now closed. thanks for your entries. The winner, chosen at random by my son is Kate Wit Wit Woo. Congrats!

Ok, the first book I’d download would have to be The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. Just love it.
Good luck everyone
Just moved to Panama and struggling with the language. Carrying my phrase books with me all the time is ruining my handbag!
Mucho gracias!
Honestly I think I’d give it to my better half so he could download this book that he’s been talking about for ages but that we can never find in book shops, although I’d probably steal it back, I mean borrow it and download lots of yummy cook books.
I’d probably download The Mystery of Mercy Close by Marian Keyes. We follow each other on ‘da twitters’ as she calls it and I really feel I should get round to reading her new book. Plus the advantage of a Kindle Fire would be that I could put it in my bag and take it on holiday without incurring any excess luggage charges…
So I’d download “Cavan Mum”‘s fave “pride and prejudice”, wrap it up and let him surprise her completely!
My happy ending would be winning the Kindle Fire from Directline Holidays, and being able to curl up with my favourite books from CHristmas until Spring.
A classic
by Iain. M. Banks
Carte Blanche by Jeffery Deaver maybe. Or Coming Home by Rosamund Pilcher as that is one FAT book. Or any discworld books by Sir Terry Prattchet
Ooh I got it! The Mark of The Lion Trilogy by Francine Rivers. That way my husband would have to read them when he stole the kindle when sent off shore for a business trip. *nods* And I ‘d have an excuse to read them again!
read it for years! would download it for
my next holiday!
As i work for charity oraganising events, I have to make sure I know all the health and safety laws to keep my public safe at all times.
Mr. Jobs never liked or believed in the smaller screens… Well, this might be one of those times to enjoy that line on a screen of such size!
What if??
In preparation for the film this Christmas.
The Litigators by John Grisham.
I can’t wait to read his new book!
Kindle was made for this, and I’m probably old enough to understand it!
To bring some sparkle into my life!!
I read it a few years ago and loved it, I cant think of a better reason to read it again than on my new Kindle Fire
I was really surprised the author was a man he captured the women`s perspective so well if you do not shed a tear you have no heart.
I just love Disc World characters.e.g Death, Vimes,Wizards, etc, etc.
So I could help my daughter with her home work!!
Thanks for the chance to win xx
“Child Development:Theory and Practice 0-11″ Then I would see if I could download crochet patterns for my other obsession
Would love to win one !!
So many film and TV versions around, I think its worth investigating the original creation.
My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell.
If it wasn’t copyrighted, I’d pinch his title and use it myself!
To read of the mountains glistening,
And through a wardrobe a wonderland out of sight!
Windows Cold as cold could be,
The Witch in all of her glory.
The silver trunks of trees glowing at night
Snow covered landscapes very bright,
To imagine the streams not flowing covered in ice,
Until the passing of time.
The dark half.
It’s a brilliant story about how a writer’s altar ego somehow comes alive!! George Stark. Not a very nice guy. I think are the first words in the book.
Rachelradiostar is MY writing altar ego MUUHAHAHAHAAA!!
However, fortunately, I’m NOTHING like George Stark! I’m lovely
Good luck everyone! Crosses fingers and wishes on a star it’s. me!!
Thought provoking book I would like to read time and time again
Fab comp xx
Books are treasures when you are old
They put a spring in a step
So many books I have read.
But the best,
Its got to be Indiana jones and the Temple of Doom
Passageways leading into rooms
uncovered from thousands of years,
Remains of the lost city of Atlantis and people proving it did exist.

by Brian Tracy. I’ve been meaning to buy this book for some time now but haven’t got round to it!!!
by Eben Alexander
It sounds fascinating.
I would download a Terry Pratchett novel. All his books help me to unwind and I end up laughing out loud! I would like to read Dodger as I haven’t read that one yet.
Matt
It is the book that I just love to re-read over and over again!
