I think we’ve already established that I rather like everything (wait, did I mention crunchy, flame-coloured leaves, blackberry picking, cosy evenings in front of the fire, red wine, blankets, flickering candles, pumpkin spice, bobble hats, Halloween, shiny conkers… yes? Okay, I’ll stop now) about autumn. I do feel, though, that we haven’t really touched on one of the best things: snuggly autumn knitwear. Along with not having to fake tan and leaving my legs to be unnaturally unkempt, I think a soft, chunky jumper is one of the loveliest things about the turn in the weather. There are some great sales on at the moment, so it’s a great time to shop. Grab your pumpkin spiced latte, snuggle up and browse through my top picks:
hush have just announced their archive sale, with up to 50% off some of the lovely things I mentioned in my roundup back in August (some clever shopping here could really pay off: there are a few proper bargains, including their beautiful jumpsuits for just £35). I love the warm colour of this soft, wool/mohair mix bubble knit, and it’s reduced from £99 to £60 (hurry, though – not many sizes left).
I’ve currently got a bit of a thing for Boohoo. I first discovered them via the Next Directory, and went in search of the whole range which is great: affordable and fashionable, with loads of great new products appearing on the site every day. In my top picture here, I’m wearing their Laura soft knit oversized roll neck jumper, which is gorgeously soft, washes like a dream and is just £18! Also, tomorrow (Sunday 22nd October), and Wednesday 25th October, there’s 25% off jackets, knits & boots (excluding sale items) until 10pm (with the code 25COSY).
Talking of affordable, you might have seen this shot on my Instagram feed recently. I haven’t been to Primark for years, but Sam wanted some of their skinny joggers, so I popped in to the enormous one at MK Stadium and was really pleasantly surprised at the quality and choice of knitwear available. This soft, mustard chenille jumper was just £10, and you can’t go wrong with anything that matches your favourite pumpkin, am I right?
I also hunted for this claret cable knit that I’ve seen on the Primark website, but couldn’t find it. I’m going to keep popping in – love the colour.
Another one of my faves for gorgeous, well made knitwear is Oliver Bonas (I know! And you thought they were all about the stationery). This foundation mohair mix is soft, slouchy and light enough for layering.
I know I’ve mentioned this M&S Limited Edition cable knit round neck jumper before, but I feel that if you sized up a little bit, it would be the perfect autumnal chunky knit (this one just seems just not quite slouch enough on the model, don’t you think?) Also, spend £40 at the moment and you get a lovely wool blend check scarf worth £25 for just a fiver.
I’m a huge fan of anything from Kin by John Lewis and this lovely, oversized jumper (£69) is a great example of the unstructured, contemporary feel of a lot of the items in the range:
Lastly, and basically autumn embodied within a jumper, is this glorious oversized pompom jumper from Zara. It also comes in navy and a light grey with coloured pompoms, but come on, it has to be mustard, right?! I’ve yet to actually find this in store, but I feel that when I do, it will be coming home with me.
Et voila! I think that’s a pretty good selection – and I managed to avoid any mention of the C word. Winning!
