I adore candles. When I’m writing, I’ll often have a scented candle lit next to me while I type. I find it quite soothing and I love filling the room with delicious scent, although I’ve had to stop leaving them lit around the house (let’s not mention that time I turned the entire downstairs loo black by leaving a Halloween Yankee Candle burning all night – yes, it had to be redecorated). You know I love everything about the autumn, and I always get excited to see beautiful new scented Christmas candles appearing online and in the shops. Here are a few of my favourites:
Amphora marzipan and candied peel
Amphora are a Bristol based company who are one of the UK’s largest suppliers of essential oils and aromatherapy products. Their marzipan and candied peel candle is created from natural plant wax and smells absolutely delicious – the almondy scent is particularly nice in this. The large one burns for 40 hours for the bargain price of £9.48 (they do smaller candles too in most of the scents for £5.50). I’m excited to light the orange and clove one next.
WoodWick hot toddy
If you haven’t experienced the fabulous flickering WoodWick candles yet, I absolutely urge you to buy some. Not only is the gentle flickering of the wooden wick (clue’s in the title) completely mesmerising, but the scents are fabulous and there’s the added advantage that they burn cleanly down with no wick trimming required. You can currently buy two medium candles for £29.99 and they last for ages, with a really decent hit of scent. The hot toddy, with warm cinnamon and nutmeg notes, and the sweetness of caramel apples and maple, is utterly gorgeous.
Neom Christmas Wish
If you’ve got a decent budget, Neom candles are fabulous (and you can sometimes find them for ridiculously good prices at TK Maxx too). This Christmas Wish candle burns for 35 hours and basically ticks all my Christmas boxes for this year: twinkling rose gold, and the heady festive scents of 13 pure essential oils including mandarin, cinnamon, and the sweet vanilla notes of tonka bean. This one’s definitely on my wishlist (but there’s also a three wick version for £45 that burns for 50 hours if Santa’s feeling super generous).
Anthropologie always have gorgeous candles and these hammered mercury candles are utterly gorgeous. They come in three different scents/sizes: Cedar & Spruce with a burn time up to 48 hours, Apple & Oak Moss, with a burn time up to 72 hours, and Fir & Smoke, which sounds absolutely lovely, and has a burn time up to 120 hours. All of them are soy wax and free from parabens and sulphates.
You really don’t need to spend a fortune to fill your home with delicious, festive scent. I was particularly impressed with the candles from Next – they’d make lovely stocking fillers too. This gingerbread scented candle in a star-shaped tin is absolutely lovely and gives a delicate, spicy scent for 10 hours for just £4.50.
Primark also have some sweet little jar candles, including these sweet-scented little Sugared Candy jar candles that are just £1!
