You all know I love a bright colour – there’s something about being surrounded by brights that constantly lifts your mood. Although I love a minimalist wardrobe, I don’t think I could ever have a minimalist home: for one thing, we’re too messy, and for another I love my bright blue kitchen table too much! This week I’ve been delighted to discover a new range, Tribal Treasures at Homesense and T K Maxx, which is both beautiful and inspiring.
Tribal Treasures feature a range of handmade homeware made by remote communities in Western Uganda. The initiative supports some of the most disadvantaged families, giving them an income, and helping them to afford schooling for their children. Since the start of the project in 2011, it’s enabled more than 10,000 children to attend school and there’s been a 40% increase in children finishing primary school education.
The beautiful hand-crafted items, available both in Homesense and in sister brand TK Maxx include unique platters, pots and vases as well as carved horn bowls and spoons, and even Fairtrade coffee (at really decent prices, as you can see):
The unique Uganda homeware pieces are available from both TK Maxx and Homesense stores nationwide right now, as well as online at TK Maxx.
