It’s been absolutely lovely to be home after spending the last six weeks travelling! I feel compelled to do loads of ‘nesting’ to make everything extra cosy. Yesterday I spent the day shopping, cleaning and tidying, and it makes me so happy to have cupboards full of food, freshly baked pumpkin spice cookies in the kitchen (recipe coming soon!) and fresh linen on the beds. Can you believe it’s only a week until the clocks go back? I’m so delighted to have been asked to team up with Elizabeth Shaw for a fab, feel-good project to celebrate the extra hour and use it for truly thoughtful gestures. I’ve also got yummy Elizabeth Shaw goodies to give away!
What will you be doing with your extra hour in bed? Elizabeth Shaw want to encourage us all to do something really lovely when the clocks go back on 30th October and I think it’s a wonderful idea. Autumn is a great time to practice hygge, the Danish concept of warmth, family, congeniality and cosiness, and we’ve decided to embrace the extra hour to do something really thoughtful for someone that deserves it (or, actually, even someone that doesn’t deserve it!).
It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture either. When I was away on the Royal Princess recently, we had a special dinner where we were all presented with a beautiful fresh red rose. I knew that we were disembarking the next day, so as I walked back to my cabin, I gave my rose to a lady that was walking along with her husband. Her face lit up and I felt SO good! My extra hour will be used to cook some delicious home made soup for Mr E to take to work (he often comes home and says he hasn’t eaten as he was too busy to get out to buy lunch), and some baking to give to our lovely postman who is so sweet to us and always goes the extra mile saving letters and parcels for me because he knows I’m often away.
I’ve also got a delicious hamper stuffed with £50 worth of Elizabeth Shaw chocolates to give away to one lucky commenter chosen at random. All you need to do is comment below and tell me what thoughtful gestures you’ve received, or bestowed upon someone else, or even some lovely ideas for the rest of us to try, to encourage us all to use our ‘free hour’ to do something thoughtful for someone else, rather than just have the extra hour in bed! It might be calling someone you haven’t spoken to for a while (I’ll be checking up on my Mum and Dad – I haven’t spoken to them for far too long), paying for someone’s parking, offering to walk a neighbour’s dog… anything kind and thoughtful.
Usual English Mum competition rules apply. Giveaway closes on 31st October at midnight.
