So last week I spent a gorgeous few days with the gang from Virgin Holidays discovering the sunny south western coast of Florida. Plenty of people fly into Orlando for fun and frolics at Disney and Universal theme parks, but we went further afield and discovered wonderful resorts, stunning white sand beaches, some great fun activities and food, food, food! Look out for my Alternative Florida series over the next few weeks. First, though, we headed to Gatwick Airport and spent some time in Virgin Holidays’ v-room – their private lounge with brilliant facilities – for a stylish start to our holiday!
If you’ve left home early, it’s such a treat to book the v-room so you can check in and have somewhere lovely to go for breakfast. There are comfy seats, all sorts of yummy food, a great play area for the kids (and video games for the bigger ones), plus really nice bathrooms (SO important, or is that just me?), free wifi, oh and a full bar if you’re that way inclined…
Obviously the best way to start your holiday is with bubbles, so we started ours with some pink ones, thanks to a little drop of crème de cassis, plus a healthy platter of fruit (and a not so healthy bacon sandwich!). There’s also an epic pancake making machine, muffins, pastries, more hot breakfasts, smoothies, cereals, juice, coffee… you name it.
It’s just for Virgin Holidays customers, so you don’t have to battle the queues, and what’s more, the staff even tell you when you’re flight’s boarding, so no constant checking of the information boards, and no last-minute legging it to the gate. Next thing you know, it’s time to hop on your plane and start your holiday. Happy days!
