Being the proud owner of a teeny, springy whippet means that you really get to immerse yourself in the changing seasons. We walk twice a day, every day come rain or shine and I think it’s one of the nicest things about having a dog: they get you out in the fresh air to have a good old therapeutic stomp about, whether you feel like it or not. I thought I’d bring you a little ‘snuggly roundup’ and tell you all about the products I’m loving at the moment that are keeping me lovely and warm.
One of the things I have to have is a really warm parka. I’ve had a few over the years and I’m now a bit of an expert on them. I’ve actually paid a lot of money only to find they leak at key areas like where the sleeves attach to the shoulder. The fur around the hood of a parka provides really good protection from biting wind and cold, and the pockets are practical for doggy treats, gloves etc, but most of all, they still manage to look stylish AND keep you warm. Lovely Millets got in touch recently about their exciting Bring on the cold! winter campaign, and I was chuffed to bits when they offered me one of their lovely jackets to try out. I chose the grey paloma parka (currently reduced from £100 to £60 – get yours quick!) and I’m chuffed to bits with it. It’s really warm, totally waterproof (extensive testing has taken place – the parka has ‘Storm Shield technology with taped seams) and it has the ribbed cuffs inside the sleeve that I like to keep your arms nice and toasty and tuck your gloves in. I love the soft fur around the hood as well.
Of course, as well as a decent coat, you really do need a great pair of wellies. Mine are the Aigle Parcours 2 Pro, from The Welly Shop. They’re so comfortable with no fiddly bits like buckles or straps, and they have a great shock absorbing sole meaning they’re good for walking long distances and for wearing all day, if you need to. They’re £99.99, but I’ve got a discount code below – they have a great range of Hunters, Le Chameau, Timberland, etc too.
The lovely Welly Shop have also very kindly offered a fab 10% discount for you guys if you’re buying wellies. Head to TheWellyShop.com and enter code ENGMUMNOV2016 to get your discount!
Of course if you’re really out in the elements and wanting some serious protection (as I was during my recent Adventure Canada cruise), then rainproof trousers are what you need. I originally got these for the adventure cruise, but they’re so comfortable, I’ve found myself wearing them a lot on soggy walks as well, especially if we’re planning an epic walk on a weekend. Mine are from Craghoppers, and they’re called Pro Lite Softshell – they’re not squeaky, rubber waterproof type trousers, but they’re great protection from rain and wind while still being soft and wearable. Highly recommended. Here I am hiking the Skyline Trail – the 7km hiking trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Nova Scotia (on what actually turned out to be a sunny day) in them:
Oh and lastly, Miss Lyra would like to recommend Dunelm’s seriously soft throw in grey – a snip at £14.99 and it keeps its delicious softness even after multiple washes due to muddy paw issues. You heard it here first!
