My buddy Taralara runs an online gallery with a different theme every week. Not being much of a photographer, I tend to dip in and out a bit, but this week, the theme is ‘travel’ – how could I not join in!
This picture is the ceiling of the Dubai Mall, which took me by surprise when I looked up to see it filled with thousands of delicate paper butterflies. It took my breath away.

I love things that take your breath away. I remember it happening to me at King’s College chapel when I too looked up many years ago
I love butterflies. The word for butterfly in Irish was the very first Irish word my son ever said – after a solid year of giving him the Irish for every damn thing in the house with no results , we were out in the garden one day and he said “Look Mummy! A féileacán!” Did I bawl? Bucketloads.
I loved them. The whole ceiling seemed to be alive with them all fluttering in the (freezing) air conditioning! Gorgeous. x
Hey Dia, you can decorate a boy’s room with butterfiles too! look at jennymulhall’s post.
