What. A. Year. I’ve got plenty more to say about the joy and sadness that was 2016 in my first piece of 2017 (for us, as well as everyone else, it seems, it was a year of huge highs and massive lows), and my plans for 2017. But for now, I want to stay with the joy and take a look back at the highlights of a year of travel and adventure. Here’s my 2016 roundup.
In April, Charlie and I headed back to Florida for Disney’s Awaken Summer event, experiencing loads of new adventures, including the breathtaking new Star Wars-themed firework display called Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular, lighting up the sky with an awesome pyrotechnic display cleverly matched to music from the Star Wars films, and the new Rivers of Light evening show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom (the opening of which still seems to be delayed, but I’ll keep you updated).
May was a busy one on the high seas (arrrr): I got to spend some quality time with my BFF, Erica on a cruise on P & O’s beautiful Britannia, and then Sam and I experienced a wonderful cruise on gorgeous Carnival Vista.
In June, I took the trip of a lifetime to Canada for Cruise International, cruising the mighty St Lawrence from Quebec to Newfoundland on the Ocean Endeavour and then Erica and I headed to Leeds to see our other BFF, lovely Laura for a fabulous foodie weekend.
I spent a lot of the summer at home, which was lovely, before our family cruise around the med on Celebrity Eclipse in September:
Then I had a completely mad couple of weeks of travel: heading to Florida with Erica to discover everything new in the world of Disney Dining, swiftly followed by the terrifying Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios:
Our last trip, and one of my favourites, was a December break with Mr E at The Grove, London’s Country Estate – and what a gorgeous place it is too (don’t forget to get your two for one spa day treats for January!)
We rounded off our year with a visit to the Royal Albert Hall with my Dad for the wonderful Christmas Spectacular. My Dad adores classical music, and I’m proud to say that it was Sam, not me, who suggested that we dressed up in our gladrags and headed to London with their adored Grandad for a festive musical treat. We all absolutely loved it: there was gorgeous ballet, stunning opera, the unexpected treat of John Williams’ magestic Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and – one of my favourites – winter from the Four Seasons (you’ll know it if you hear it). A lovely, family day out, building precious memories.
What will next year have in store? I’ve no idea, but I’ll be embracing life, counting my blessings, and continuing to think that I’m the luckiest girl in the world, with the best job and silliest family. Happy New Year to you and yours, whatever you get up to in 2017 xx
