So yesterday I had a very special date with a certain Mr Mouse at a Disney drinks party at the beautiful new Ham Yard Hotel in Soho. Of course I had to ask Mickey if he had any juicy gossip to share. Here are a few of the things I heard:
As usual, there is tons of new and exciting stuff happening at Disney this summer. With the renovation of the beautiful Polynesian Resort (it’s also returning to it’s old name, the Polynesian Village Resort) well underway, and the guest rooms already completely renovated, they’re now turning their attention to the pool and volcano (yes really) area. There’ll be a new Trader Sam’s completed next year and new Disney’s Polynesian Villas and Bungalows as well as new dining (estimated to be ready next year too).
The hard work continues on the re-imagining of Downtown Disney, as it becomes the brand new Disney Springs area. There’ll be new dining areas, double the amount of shops and much more. But if you’re going soon for goodness’ sake don’t avoid the area as there is loads to see and do now, including the fabulous new Food Truck Park (I’m DYING to visit here!) with four new permanent food trucks, and loads of outdoor entertainment and live performances ever day too.
There’s lots going on at Animal Kingdom too – to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Lion King, the amazing ‘Harambe Nights’ Saturdays continue until mid-August. This is an after-hours event so you need to get a ticket but it’s WELL worth it, with a fabulous theatrical production at the Harambe Theatre, followed by an incedible street party. So lucky you if you’re going to be there within the next month.
There’s also a huge expansion planned and a cool new nighttime spectacular called ‘Rivers of Light’ although I don’t know much about it yet. I’m also hearing rumours about Kilimanjaro safaris IN THE DARK which sounds mega exciting!
Talking of rumours, apparently that little minx Tinkerbell will be flitting around at her Magical Nook on Main Street, USA. There’s talk of shrinking down to the size of a fairy. But don’t say I told you so!
At Hollywood Studios, Disney’s epic Frozen features very heavily, with Frozen Summer Fun Live! which runs until the end of August. There is a daily procession where you can sing along with Anna and Elsa, as well as fireworks and ice skating – it sounds fantastic.
Talking of Frozen, Disney Cruise Line have announced new Frozen routes and Adventures by Disney are also now offering luxury guided travel to Norway.
And lastly, of course, Disney are still hard at work with James Cameron creating Avatar Land where we’ll soon be able to visit Pandora’s biolumescent forests and floating mountains and ride on a banshee. It’s expected to open in 2017. Can’t wait!
