Skincare is SO confusing, isn’t it? I love it, but what with acids and peels and peptides and vitamins and minerals, it can be a worry that you’re not doing enough – or even doing too much. I try and keep my skincare regime relatively simple (I love a good hyaluronic acid serum and a decent SPF moisturiser), but I’m often worried that I’m not doing enough. I’m not too bad day to day, but I’m terrible about remembering to exfoliate (I don’t like gritty scrubs) so when I read about REN Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic (£25) , I was desperate to give it a try. I’m a big fan of Caroline Hirons on YouTube: she talks a lot of sense and really cuts through the beauty jargon to give you great advice, whatever your skin type. Caroline talks about acids a lot (see her cheat sheet on acids here) and I know she’s a big fan of REN too, so with the promise of exfoliation without the grit, I thought I’d give it a try.
So why do we need this type of skin-resurfacing toner?
Well, I’m no expert, but certainly with the REN Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic, the product exfoliates and brightens your complexion, sweeping away dead skin cells after cleansing to reveal healthier brighter skin, leaving a nice fresh surface to help your chosen moisturiser do its job effectively.
What acids does the REN Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic contain?
Ready Steady Glow contains Lactic Acid, which is great for gentle exfoliating – it literally dissolves the bonds holding dull, dead skin on the surface, improving exfoliating. It also has renewing properties, helping to firm and plump the skin by promoting new skin cell turnover.
Next up is Salicin (or BHA) which is extremely good at exfoliating, and is great for managing conditions like excess sebum and blocked pores.
Finally, Ready Steady Glow contains an Azelaic Acid Precursor, which is a brilliant radiance booster that improves hydration and boosts elasticity.
So what will REN Clean Skincare’s brand new Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic do for us?
Well, first of all, with all this talk of acids and exfoliating, it’s reassuring to know that this natural skin-resurfacing toner is gentle enough to use every day, and is a must have to brighten the complexion, minimise pores and target fine lines.
I’ve been using the REN Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic for a few days now. The bottle has a clever pump thing (a bit like nail technicians have where you just push your cotton pad straight down onto the bottle and it pumps the perfect amount up into the pad), and I’ve just been sweeping it all over my cleansed face and neck. It smells delicious – really fresh and orangey, and leaves my skin feeling really clean and glowy. I feel that it’s quite similar to Pixi’s Glow Tonic but without the old lady smell, and if anything, it feels a bit more effective.
Oh, and while I’m here…
Check out the other products in the REN Radiance range. I’ve been using the Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask (£36, also orange, also delicious smelling) once a week. It’s a bio active peel mask designed to renew the complexion and improve skin tone, radiance and firmness, and I’ve definitely noticed a difference. After using it, my skin was plumped and glowy and the fine lines at the edge of my eyes seemed reduced too.
