Family Travel News and Holiday Reviews
Family, food, travel, gin and a touch of hysteria…
ENGLISH MUM IN THE PRESS

Plains, trains and automobiles

Well, we’re finally home.  Our total journey went something like this:

Car from Cavan to Dublin Airport

Flight from Dublin Airport to London Heathrow (we couldn’t get a flight to Gatwick)

Drive to London Gatwick

Stay overnight

Flight from London Gatwick to Cancun, Mexico

Flight back from Cancun, Mexico to London Gatwick (delayed 10 hours)

Miss flight back to Ireland and argue with unhelpful Ryanair about why I won’t pay £1000 to get on next flight.

*pause for hissy bout of hysteria*

Drive to English Grandma’s house in Hertfordshire

Stay there two days panicking about how to get home.

Get saved by wonderful friend who suggests sailrail.co.uk

Train to Milton Keynes, then Chester, then Holyhead

Ferry from Holyhead to Dublin Port

Taxi from Dublin Port to incredibly understanding Long Stay Car Park (who didn’t charge me extra).

But I’m back!

And oh, the wonderful things I have to show and tell.

For instance, we saw this:

And we ate this:

And we did this:

… saw lots of this:

And even shed a tear at this:

Much, much more to come.  Once I’ve conquered the EU washing mountain and cleaned out the Nutties.

What a journey… but by the looks of those pics it was worth it! :) I had forgotten that the sky and sea could be so blue! Amazing. Can’t wait to hear more and welcome home x

  2. Welcome home! Such a shame the trip of a lifetime had to end in a journey from hell (hate those!)
    Pics look great though.

Aw thanks Sharon. I know – it’s so much easier on the way there when you’re all excited isn’t it! I felt sorry for the people who were delayed 10 hours on the way out – that’s a whole day off your holiday. Sucks. xx

It looks amazing. I want more, more, more.

I nearly shed a tear at the blue sea too … and your boys jumping into the pool.

    *big sigh*

WOW! What lovely photo’s, I can just imagine you doing it all. Shame about your lengthly journey but I am sure it was worth it! Will be putting Cancun on my list of places to go xxxx

It really was worth it, and obviously that bit of it wouldn’t be suffered by the normal people that live somewhere not in the arse end of nowhere!!

Yes, do. It’s fab. A girls’ holiday maybe?!!

  6. Looks fabulous! Looking forward to hearing more. Hope you’ve recovered from the journey.

Amazing pictures! I think I would of had to jump in like the boys, it couldn’t have been that cold…..?

The food looks amazing, did you try the lobster?

    • English Mum says:

OMG it was SO high – they jumped from a kind of rocky platform thing. I climbed up just so I could take a photo and that was enough for me!

I didn’t have the lobster – I felt too guilty! The fellas did though and said it was lush :)

  8. Lovely pics, looks like you had an amazing time x

    • English Mum says:

Oh it was just fabulous. Thanks. Feels like it was all a dream now I’m back in the land of packed lunches, wellies and unruly chickens!

Sounds fabulous, although you had me at the mojito bar! Wipe all memories of the O’Leary & just hang onto the tan and good stories!
