We LOVE Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday this year falls on February 17th). Forget dinner, we waive it completely and go straight into pancakes. Of course, in order to do it properly, you’ll need some fantastic equipment. For perfect pancake preparation, here are my recommendations. You’ll need:
An accurate measuring jug
I’ve got a bit of a thing about measuring jugs. See, generally the clear ones are the easiest and most accurate to use but they’re not exactly aesthetically pleasing. Enter the very lovely Sophie Conran (who is, incidentally, the owner of one of the most beautiful Instagram accounts) and this beautiful measuring jug in her Portmeirion range. Lovely to look at, and useful too.
An amazing egg container
If you’re a fan of beautiful interiors, you’ll probably already know about Anthropologie. I’ve written before about their beautiful cups and plates, and I love the colour of this beautiful little egg ‘carton’.
A fantastic whisk
Of course, you can mix your pancakes by hand with a balloon whisk, but if you’re looking for an electric mixer that’s really nicely designed and easy to use, look no further than this Dualit hand mixer. Lots of stick blenders seem to have a whisk attachment, but I’ve only ever succeeded in splattering my whole kitchen with whatever it is I want to mix, so I much prefer this type of hand mixer. The Kenwood K Mix one is lovely too.
An awesome frying pan
My frying pan of choice is from Le Creuset. Their toughened non stick range looks fabulous, is really, properly non-stick and really easy to clean. I’ve got one of the frying pans, but check out this gorgeous crepe pan. WANT.
A citrus press
I’ve got one of these lemon squeezers and use it all the time. You just pop the halved fruit into the press and give it a squeeze straight over your pancakes. They’re metal so they’re really hard wearing, and they look fab too.
So now you’re all sorted on the equipment side, all you need is a bit of pancake inspiration. Betta Living have rounded up five delicious Pancake Day recipes to get you started. Happy Pancake Day!
