It’s no secret that I love my food. I’m pretty active (being dragged round a field by a small and perpetually enthusiastic whippet is incredibly exhausting) but still occasionally I do worry about what I eat. We eat a decent meal every night, but I do have a bit of a cake habit. Generally, I try and balance this by forcing myself to eat a healthy breakfast, at least on weekday mornings.
I’m a huge fan of Special K multi-grain porridge. It’s a 2 minutes in the microwave job and is really nice. There are bits of different grains in there (oats, barley and rye) and it’s sort of chewy and satisfying while still managing to stay quite creamy. I’m a bit addicted. The almond and honey is my favourite, but it’s also available in original and a red berries version. Very satisfying.
This week, they sent me some of their new Special K Granola to try – it has a five grain recipe, with oats, barley, wheat, spelt and rye, and is 30 percent less fat than most other granolas. There are two flavours: Raisins & Red Apples; and Cranberry, Pumpkin Seeds & Almonds. I really like them, they’re not too sweet and a 45g portion is surprisingly filling. It’s particularly nice used as a crunchy topping on a bowlful of fruit and yogurt. Yum.
I’ve got two whole cases of the lovely stuff to give away: one of each flavour, each containing six packs of eight portions – so (without taking off my shoes and socks – you know my maths skill level), that’s 96 portions which must be pretty much a three month supply, no?
The usual English Mum competition rules apply – this giveaway will end at 9am on Wednesday 5th March. To enter, just leave a comment and tell me your favourite breakfast. The winner will be chosen at random. If you’re a first time commenter, your comment will not appear straight away.
This competition is now closed. Many congratulations to Deborah Swain whose entry was chosen at random!
