So the start of this week was ‘blue Monday’ apparently – the most depressing day of the year. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll see my post about how I keep happy, basically by always having something to look forward to. Yes, I know I go away a lot so this is quite easy, but often, and especially when I don’t have a trip planned, it can be something as simple as having a page in my notebook where I jot down ideas for our lovely new en-suite (when we can finally afford it), or planning a family night out, or a drink with a girlfriend pencilled in the diary. As long as there’s something lovely to look forward to, or something that needs planning, I’m a happy girl.
Of course, being yucky January, the best thing to be planning is a sun-drenched, summer getaway! The lovely chaps at Clickstay, the fab travel company that have villas and holiday rentals worldwide (perfect for families), recently asked me for my family holiday wishlist for this summer, and I’m happy to oblige!
I visited this beautiful little island very briefly on a cruise last year and earmarked it for a much longer return visit. It’s got a glamorous, party reputation, but with plenty of gorgeous, white villas dotted around the pretty hillsides, it would be easy to have a chilled, relaxing holiday as well (with the occasional visit to those amazing shops and restaurants, obviously!).
This is another place I briefly visited (on my fabulous Away with Wine tour) and really want to go back and explore. The food and wine is absolutely amazing and there are so many beautiful towns to discover. I’m thinking of lazing by a beautiful turquoise pool, mixed with a bit of gentle wandering around honey-coloured streets, and then home for a barbecue under the stars and a glass or two of local wine. Heaven.
I’ve heard so much about how beautiful Croatia is that I’m really keen to go and see it for myself. From wandering the Old Town of Dubrovnik, to discovering the legendary coastline, dotted with little islands – it seems like a place that would suit both the beach-lover and the more adventurous. Perfect for my family, then!
New York State
Charlie and I were lucky enough to visit New York before our beautiful Caribbean cruise on the Norwegian Breakaway. I really want to go back as a family and explore wider New York State. It’s so much more than just NYC, so although I want to look at the glittering view from the top of the Empire State Building at midnight (the best time to go), I’m also dreaming of eating lobster rolls by the sea in Long Island, sipping Chardonnay at a winery in the Hamptons and climbing to the top of the Montauk Point lighthouse too.
We’ve spent many a wonderful family holiday in various villas and gites in Brittany, but I really want to explore, especially further south to Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. I’m a huge fan of French culture (and food and wine, obviously) and I’ve already been on ClickStay and scoped out a nice apartment right on the Promenade des Anglais and overlooking the med. I’ll be on the balcony, sipping a nice rosé and nibbling on a baguette if you need me…
