This year, Mother’s Day is on Sunday 11th March. Did you know that the reason the date changes every year is that it’s on the fourth Sunday of Lent, exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday, and the timing of Lent changes every year (it’s linked to the lunar calendar)? Mother’s Day, Easter and my birthday are always linked in my mind as they’re around the same time of year, and this lovely few weeks always makes me think of spring: delicious scents, fresh flowers and all the food (mostly hot cross buns, but also Easter eggs and roast lamb). I always feel like Mother’s Day gifts should be something indulgent that your Mama might not splash out and buy herself, so whether it’s a posy of pretty flowers, sweet treats or beautiful beauty pressies you’re after, I thought I’d have a look and give you some M&S Mother’s Day gift inspo.
Flowers are a great option for Mother’s Day. Who doesn’t like a gorgeous bouquet? And there’s the added advantage that if you don’t live close to your Mum, you know it’s something that will get there safely and look lovely. My Mum adores yellow roses, so I love the look of this suitably spring-like sunny scented vase – it’s not too stiff and formal and the hyacinths will scent the whole house too. Some of the Mother’s Day flowers come with free chocolates too (pre-order for free delivery from 6th March).
And if you’re more an ‘armful of tulips from the market’ type person (these beauties were from Berkhamsted market – the owner has a stall at Columbia Road on a Sunday), then why not treat your mama to one of these gorgeous new apothecary vases? I’ve mentioned them before but I’m just completely in love with them – they’re really chunky and come in a range of sizes and colours.
If my children are reading this (they won’t be), I would be very happy to receive this lovely grapefruit and ginger candle (how delicious does that sound?) and it’s just a complete coincidence that it says ‘mum in a million’ on it. Also – top tip – if you’re ever in M&S, pick up anything from their rhubarb home fragrance selection – iI think they have a diffuser and scented candles – they smell incredible.
With some seriously great brands, the M&S beauty section boasts some gorgeous products that would be perfect for Mother’s Day gifting: I’ve mentioned Neom before and their Scent to Make You Happy range is perfectly on-message for Mother’s Day. This Nourish, Breathe and Smile hand balm is scented with a wild mint and mandarin fragrance which sounds scrumptious.
The M&S Formula Absolute Ultimate Sleep Cream is turning into something of a cult product. I’ve seen it everywhere from magazines to Instagram, and the hundreds of five star reviews speak for themselves. It’s jam packed full of high end active ingredients, including peptides, hyaluronic acid and skin-brightening actives and its skin-plumping, brightening properties are converting women everywhere.
What better pressie to give to your lovely mum than plumped, glowing skin?! And frankly, even if you don’t buy this for your mum, you should be buying it for yourself, so if you’re holding the gifting reins, or giving ideas, I’d put this at the top of the list.
