I’ve had a think about it, and I’ve decided that having Mother’s Day and my birthday on the same day is the way to go. I appreciate it’s not something I can dictate, but it made for such a wonderful weekend – full of my favourite people, some delicious food, and many laughs – that I think I’m going to try and swing it from now on. We started the Mother’s Day/birthday weekend (or should that be the Motherbirthday weekend?) with a trip to the cinema to see Beauty and the Beast. Oh, I loved it – I adore Emma Watson anyway and Beauty and the Beast has long been my favourite Disney movie, so the combination of the two of them, along with my three favourite men plus being able to sip a glass of wine (the Odeon MK has a gallery area where you can order a drink before your film) while I was watching was possibly the best thing ever.
I was also treated to this fab t-shirt by the lovely chaps at Teespring, which made me feel quite the superhero (thanks guys!):
On Saturday, I joined my lovely brothers and treated The Mothership to a full on yummy pub lunch and some giggles at a local pub: The Greyhound in Wigginton. The food is exceptionally good there and both brothers were on great form. And honestly, is there anything nicer than scampi and chips in a pub? Glorious, and possibly quite telling that I managed to take a picture of my food, but none of my mum or my siblings:
On Sunday, I was treated to glorious sunshine for an extra birthday treat, and we started with a lovely long walk. The boys treated me to flowers, plants and a lovely bottle of wine (Edna Valley Chardonnay – yes!), and my Mum joined us again for a lovely lunch (slow roasted lamb with all the trimmings). Possibly one of the best things about the whole weekend, though, was the incredible mermaid cake that she had made for me – it was nearly too gorgeous to cut:
Isn’t she divine? A lady my mum knows made it, and she only does it for fun – I’m in awe.
And this was the inside, with layers of rose, berry and lemon:
Utterly gorgeous. She also gave me cash (woohoo!) as did Mr E and I’m toying with the idea of getting an Apple Watch – has anyone got one, or got any advice on the subject? You can contact me on the usual channels.
As for this week, I’m off to lunch with my Dad shortly, and then my Mama and I are taking an exciting trip as I’m off on assignment for Cruise International to join the Saga Pearl II in Fuerteventura, so I’m really looking forward to that. I’m also taking over Cruise Mag’s Instagram, so do follow along if you don’t already. What a week! How was your weekend? If you’re a mama yourself, I hope you had a lovely one, and if you’re missing your mama, my thoughts are with you. I know how hard it can be to miss someone you love xx
