Now our boys are older and have their own money, when it comes to gifting they tend to just ask what I’d like. I’m always happy with flowers or chocolates, but when they or Mr E want to buy me something lovely that I might not splurge on for myself, I tend to head straight for beauty products. You already know that I’m a big fan of M & S beauty, so I thought I’d pick a few things that I love that would make amazing Mother’s Day gifts (or, frankly, a well-deserved bit of self-gifting too). Read on to find my top picks for Mother’s Day beauty with M & S:
Pixi Glow Tonic (£10)
I’ve been dying to get my hands on this for ages. During a facial consultation I had recently, the therapist really recommended the daily use of an exfoliating toner, especially as I said I didn’t really like gritty exfoliators. This one has got a proper cult following and contains 5% glycolic acid to smooth and brighten the skin, while remaining alcohol free and kind enough for all skin types. This small size will be perfect for travel too.
I’ve written quite a lot about primers recently. They’re one of those products I can’t believe I managed without. I’ll be honest, quite a lot of my obsession with this incredible serum stems from my fascination with the different coloured swirls of product you can see through the bottle! Apparently, this ‘triple-swirled helix’ contains ingredients that prime the skin, correct skin tone, brighten, moisturise and cover imperfections too, as well as being cruelty-free. I can’t wait to give it a go.
If you’re already a fan of the fabulous smoothing, bounce-giving, gloss-imparting qualities of Philip Kingsley’s gorgeous pre-shampoo treatment, you’ll be delighted to discover this special edition, infused with natural neroli, geranium, lavender, rose and orange oils. It smells utterly divine and still works its magic on my highlighted, stressed hair. Wet the hair, massage it in (concentrating on the ends), then stick on a shower cap (thank you, hotel bathrooms all around the world) and leave it from 10 minutes to however long you can be bothered. Rinse, shampoo and condition et voila – hair like silk.
Other M & S beauty favourites of mine:
I think I’ve mentioned them before, but the Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels are just fab. I use them when I’m flying (I’m not bothered if I look odd, but you could pop a sleep mask over them), as they really firm and de-puff your under eye area. Just pop these on, and relax, and you don’t land looking all squinty and dehydrated. Amazing. Of course, you can use them at home too. They’re really effective.
I adore all Neom products, and this hand balm, from their Scent to De-stress range is like a tiny aromatherapy treatment in a tube. It literally smells like walking into a high end spa. I like to take a breather from the keyboard, massage this into my hands and really breathe in the gorgeous scent. Heavenly. It’s also perfect to use last thing at night: massage in, then cup the hands around your nose and inhale all those gorgeous aromatherapy oils, before (hopefully) nodding straight off to sleep.
All Neom products contain 100% natural fragrances and all have aroma-therapeutic qualities too. I couldn’t resist this travel candle from the ‘Scent to Sleep’ range. It’s the perfect size for my bedside table, and with 19 pure essential oils, including lavender, sweet basil and jasmine, it’s perfectly scented to relax you into a restful sleep. I’m also a fan of lighting a candle when I’m trying to write – I find that it helps me focus – not sure why that is!
And finally, from now until 25th March, if you spend £30 or more on M & S beauty, you receive a gorgeous Mother’s Day Beauty Box absolutely free (Ts and Cs apply). The box, worth £80, contains loads of lovely little beauty luxuries, like Neals Yard Rose Sauvage (15g), Ren Moroccan Rose Body Wash (50ml), a Studio 10 perfecting lip liner, L’Occitane hand cream (10ml), and a Nails Inc one coat gel amongst other things. Such a sweet little gift!
