It’s not often that you get invited by Disney to go to a special exhibition in Paris, so I was really excited this week to head to St Pancras to be whisked to the beautiful City of Lights. Unfortunately, being the travel professional that I am, I turned up without my passport. My heart sank and I was absolutely convinced that I would have to miss this wonderful opportunity. Happily, my amazing family came rushing to the rescue and managed to deliver my passport to me at Euston, allowing me to hop on the next Eurostar and arrive just in time for lunch (always my favourite bit). Anyhoo, after all that drama, it was time to immerse myself into the wonderful world of Marvel Superheroes and find out all about the plans for Marvel Summer of Superheroes at a special exhibition, live from the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
Disneyland Paris expansion plans
There’s so much happening at Disneyland Paris at the moment. Not only is the park still celebrating its 25th anniversary, but just last month, Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced a huge, multi-year expansion project for Disneyland Paris, with plans for three new areas based on Marvel, Frozen (I hear rumour that Frozen’s Arendelle will be brought magically to life) and Star Wars, featuring multiple new attractions and incredible live entertainment. Plus of course, Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel will open in 2020, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will be completely reimagined into a brand new Marvel-themed attraction featuring Iron Man and the Avengers.
Marvel Summer of Superheroes
Before any of that gets started, though, we get to enjoy a full summer packed with all sorts of incredible new experiences. Tony Stark sent along one of his engineers, Steve Bennet, to tell us all about it. From June 10th to September 30th this year, Walt Disney Studios Park will see the greatest gathering of Marvel Superheroes, from Spider-Man and Iron Man to Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Guardians of the Galaxy dance off competition
One of the best things about Guardians of the Galaxy films are the incredible soundtracks, and this summer at Disneyland Paris, guests will be able to join the Guardians in a fun-filled dance off competition featuring all the best 70s and 80s music. The competition will run six times a day.
‘Stark Expo presents: Energy for Tomorrow’ show
In a spectacular outdoor show on a stage right at the foot of the Hollywood Tower Hotel, Tony Stark will present his newest invention: the Arc Reactor. Evil Loki puts in an appearance, and soon Spider-Man, Black Widow and Thor join together in an epic fight to thwart Loki’s evil plans.
Captain America meet and greet
Guests will be able to meet the first Avenger, Captain America for photos at Production Courtyard.
Marvel: Superheroes Unite
This brand new indoor show sounds incredible. Inviting the audience into the heart of the Marvel universe, the specially redesigned theatre, boasts a huge 400 m² moving stage, with a production area measuring 1000 m². The live show will feature incredible special effects and pyrotechnics as well as surrounding the audience with over 30 video projectors, giving a 180° video experience, as well as 80 light projectors. The show will feature state of the art aerial choreography and, for the first time ever in a Disney Park, the show will even use drones! The incredible technology will allow the audience to travel with Doctor Strange to the ‘Sanctum Sanctorum’, visit the laboratory of Dr Abraham Erskine (creator of the Super Soldier Serum used to transform Steve Rogers into Captain America), and even enter the sanctuary of the evil villain Thanos. It sounds incredible and the plot (I’m not going to give it away) will bring the Avengers together in an epic battle between good and evil. The show will run five times a day over the Marvel Summer of Superheroes Season.
And after all that excitement, we got to have a delicious lunch at Matignon (well you can’t visit France without eating frites), and even a little pootle around Galeries Lafayette. Thanks to the lovely bunch at Disneyland Paris for a wonderful day. I can’t wait to visit and experience Marvel Summer of Superheroes for myself. I won’t forget my passport either.
