I’ve loved spending the summer at home. I really feel like we’ve been ‘nesting’ in our little house, getting things sorted and finishing a few bits off. We’ve finally planted trees and climbers to disguise our ugly garden fences and Mr E has painted my office a beautiful periwinkle blue and spent ages upcycling old pieces of furniture and shelving from Ebay. The end result is my dream mix of all the colours I absolutely love. I’m so pleased with it. For the rest of the house, we’ve been choosing flooring after living with a fetching mix of lino/carpet/bare concrete since the wall came down between the kitchen and dining room, and I’ve been baking, cooking and working – all the things I love! I’ll be honest though, I’m starting to get itchy feet and we’re all collectively getting VERY excited for our late summer getaway – a cruise on the beautiful Celebrity Eclipse.
It can sometimes be a difficult time to shop for a late summer getaway as the high street, online stores and magazines are all full of autumn/winter things now. Still, I’ve got my gorgeous Michael Kors sunnies (a cheeky airport purchase from my last trip), I picked up a few things in the sales (including the cute earrings above in New Look) and have a couple of multi-taskers I want to show you. The little Katie Loxton ‘blah blah blah’ pouch, by the way, was given to me by a friend. Isn’t it cute? It’s padded so will be perfect to store jewellery and then use as a clutch while I’m away. I’ve saved a couple of books to read (looking forward to Vinalogy by Helena Nicklin) and I can’t wait to kick back and relax a bit.
I always pack too much but I’m getting better at being a bit more sensible now. For the evenings, it’s dresses all the way, including this hush beauty from last season (wow, look how dark my hair was!). Hilariously, some random man commented on my Instagram of this and said ‘looks like a tablecloth’. It’s actually silky and cool and swishy and gorgeous. Some people are such charmers aren’t they?
And also from hush, I’ve got this gorgeous Alessia shirt – light enough to wear in the warm weather and perfect for layering with a simple vest underneath. It was the first thing I ordered from the new season hush collection and I absolutely love it.
Next is absolutely great for swimwear and basics like denim shorts all year round, and I got this gorgeous floral swimsuit. I love the high neck (I always burn my chest), the fit is really flattering and the fabric is soft and silky:
Sticking with beachwear, after teaming up with them earlier this year for my 10th birthday giveaway, I’m still obsessed with everything Coco Bay. I’ve been eating healthily and exercising like a demon and I WILL wear a bikini on the beach! I love this Seafolly Tropic Coast bikini (top £58, bottoms £41).
Now I’m in the zone (ahem), I’m determined to keep active while I’m away as well. Mr E and I have promised ourselves that we’ll walk loads and even visit the ship’s gym (I know!). Have you seen the Ivy Park range in Topshop? I actually ordered the Ivy Park running shorts, which is the nearest I’ll ever get to looking like Beyoncé, and they’re really lovely quality. The sizing is good (a medium is a 12-14), at £16 they’re reasonably priced and they’re thick and soft and comfy. I’m thinking of ordering a couple of the sports bras too.
Beauty-wise I’m forcing myself to pare down my usual make up bag. My niece Amy bought me a gorgeous blue-red lippy from Marc Jacobs beauty (now available at John Lewis, I see!) for my birthday, and I’ve moved on from the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow as I was finding it a bit too glowy in the warm weather to Clarins Skin Illusion foundation which I feel is lightweight, blends well and doesn’t leave my face too shiny. Talking of Clarins, I like the way they do those little offers that you can choose three travel sizes when you make a couple of full size purchases (I chose the Gentle Foaming Cleanser, the HydraQuench Mask and one of their lovely body treatment oils). Perfect for holidays. For moisturiser, I’ll be taking my trusty Ultrasun tinted SPF30 (love it – very moisturising, not too shiny) and I’m currently obsessed with Charlotte Tilbury’s Legendary Lashes which leaves lashes fabulous and fluttery without being at all cloggy. I’m still on the lookout for a really lovely glowy-not-glittery bronzer if anyone has any recommendations.
So that’s it. Minimal me! And just a week to go. The only slightly disappointing thing is that I’m leaving just as the Great British Bake Off is back, but oh well. Woohoo for late summer getaways!
