New Fantasyland is fast becoming one of my favourite places at the Magic Kingdom. Last time I was there it was for the official opening, and last week, I was over in Florida again for the official press event to celebrate the imminent opening of the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. We were lucky enough to get exclusive access to the ride during a fabulous party at Epcot (there’s NO party like a Disney party!) where we hung out with the likes of Elsa, Anna and Olaf!
The mine train has the very latest technology and, as well as being a proper rockin’ and rollin’ family coaster, if you co-ordinate your actions, you can actually make the whole car (based on the originals seen in the film) swing from side to side!
The interior segments of the ride are just incredibly creative, taking you down into the depths of the mine with the Dwarfs, past buckets of glittering rubies, emeralds and diamonds, and then the outside segments whoosh you around with an absolutely fabulous view over New Fantasyland.
I won’t ruin it, but you get plenty of glimpses of Sleepy, Doc, Grumpy, Bashful, Sneezy, Happy and Dopey, plus of course beautiful Snow White, and one of the things that I was really impressed with was the amount of interactive activities you can enjoy while you’re in the queue – don’t forget to hold your hands under the dripping water at the jewel washing station!
While I was at New Fantasyland, I couldn’t resist revisiting a few old favourites, including ‘Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid’ and of course the flippin’ delightful ‘Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh’. Also open now at the Castle Courtyard is Princess Fairytale Hall, a beautifully decorated place where guests can meet their favourite princesses.
We also stopped to watch the brand new Festival of Fantasy parade, featuring all the princesses, including Anna and Elsa from Frozen, and a scary new steampunk fire breathing dragon from Maleficent, Disney’s newest film:
Feisty Merida is there on her float, and don’t forget to look out for Mickey’s amazing airship:
The grand opening of the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is on 28th May 2014. Full video coming up soon!
