So my lovely friend KJL did this awesome end of year roundup thing on Facebook, and it was so interesting to read, I thought I’d ask if I could do something similar. And because she is a very lovely friend, of course she said yes. So here, just for you, are the winners of 2014…
I would always say London, but in April this year, Charlie and I took a trip to New York, and it was magical. I can’t wait to go back!
Winning the ‘best cruise blogger’ category at the Cruise International Cruise Awards. A moment I’ll never forget.
Oh, so many good ones this year, but one we went back to time and time again was The Crusher. As I reported back in February, this beauty from California is lush, silky and bursting with fruit. Delicious.
Best Cruise Line
This is a difficult one. I’ve just been on a Hapag Lloyd cruise and it was truly magnificent, but because I haven’t written about it yet, and because our Caribbean cruise was one of my favourite family holidays ever, Royal Caribbean is the worthy winner here.
Well, I’m slightly biased here as I’ve had a fantastic year writing for it, but it has to be Cruise International – gorgeous pictures, articles that make you want to sail away, and a really glossy, high end feel too. I love it.
Again, so many contenders! But at the end of the day, I’m feeling that my best cakey moment was the double chocolate and cream Wispa cake that I made for Sam’s 19th. Although my Dad’s birthday cake could also have been a contender.
Not like I go to many, but watching my boys play in their band, Marauders, at the Swan Youth Centre in Berkhamsted topped off a pretty wonderful year. To watch the crowd jumping was a proud parental moment.
Best Mobile Network
I dread to think how much money Three have saved me this year with their Feel at Home service. As soon as my current contract is up I’ll be jumping ship and not looking back. Being able to use my mobile in the USA has been life changing.
Always the Boardwalk Bakery. Just, ALWAYS.
Oh, it has to be one of the beaches from our incredible cruise on the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas. I think Happy Bay, at Philipsburg, St Maarten is possibly the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen- gorgeous clear azure water and white, white sand. Incredible.
There were so many great contenders for this award, but for fabulous location and incredible food, it just had to be SushiSamba in Miami (the hubby disagreed and went with Mama Della’s at the Portofino Bay Hotel, Universal Studios).
Virgin Atlantic. Always Virgin. Charlie and I were lucky enough to try their Upper Class service on our way back from New York, and it’s just incredible. I love everything about Virgin – their stylish, friendly cabin crew and their comfy seats. This one’s a no brainer for me.
Best Beauty Treatment
ClearLift, done by Melissa at Disappear. No pain, but loads of gain.
Cocktail-serving robots, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland dining, dodgems… it has to be Royal Caribbean’s incredible new Quantum of the Seas.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Waking up and opening your curtains to a view of zebras and giraffes wandering about on the savanna is something I’ll never forget. The restaurants and pool area are awesome and the room theming is just second to none. A fabulous hotel.
It has to be the frosty lemon gin and tonic. I’ll be returning to this one this summer. Oh yes I will.
Best Theme Park Ride
I was lucky enough to travel to Walt Disney World for the opening of the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. It’s a triumph – fun and exciting, yet family friendly, deliciously high tech, yet it feels like it’s literally a bone shaking old mine train, and with the best theming I think I’ve ever seen on a ride. Fantastic.
Our feisty, beautiful Ninja. Gone, but never forgotten.
Sainsbury’s. All will become clear very shortly with this one! (ooh, mysterious!).
What a year 2014 has been. So many amazing memories. And there are loads more adventures to be had in 2015. I’ll hope you’ll join me. What about you? Any highlights?
Happy New Year!! xx
