I love a good surprise, so when John Lewis very kindly invited me to team up to choose a surprise gift for a fellow blogger, I was delighted. I was teamed up with the gorgeous Sam Squire, the uber stylish blogger behind mens fashion and lifestyle blog ImSamSquire. My boys are obsessed with Sam and particularly love his cool outfit shoots and I wanted to put together a really stylish mens grooming kit that would impress Sam, as well as give you a few last minute ideas for gifts for the stylish man in your life
From reading Sam’s blog (and a bit of Instagram stalking) I know that he loves a good quality brand, so I knew I would be better sticking to premium products, and wanted to surprise him with some cool items that he might not have discovered before. First up, I chose a Liz Earle product. Not particularly well known for their men’s products, Liz Earle’s no nonsense, botanical approach to skincare means their products are hugely effective, with natural ingredients and no nasty extras. I know Sam sometimes suffers with sensitive skin, so I thought this multi-tasking Liz Earle for Men Face and Body Wash (£13) would be great for holidays or the gym, and was chuffed to see that loads of John Lewis customers agree, with a ton of five star reviews in evidence. The packaging is slightly more no-nonsense then I would have liked, but I’m hoping the quality will make up for it.
Next, these really retro bamboo toothbrushes (£8) caught my eye. Not only do they look really stylish on the bathroom shelf, but bamboo toothbrushes are recyclable and much better for the environment than plastic. Responsible AND stylish: a good start:
From my stalking I also sussed that Sam’s rocks a great quiff, so I’m hoping he’ll love this American Crew Fiber (£14) – it’s a great product for thickening and texturising, so I hope Sam’s going to love it (I’m also buying this for Charlie for Christmas).
I really wanted to get Sam the Kiehl’s Facial Fuel No Shine Lip Balm, 15ml (£9), which is perfect for blokes as it’s really moisturising but with no greasiness or shine at all (top tip: it’s also great under matte lipstick, which can be a bit drying) but unfortunately it’s out of stock, so I went for the Molton Brown Men’s Protecting Vitamin Lipsaver, 15ml, a bit more expensive at £12, but with classy packaging and Molton Brown’s great reputation, I hope I’m on to a winner.
I happen to know (more Instagram stalking) that Sam is partial to a bit of Tom Ford, so I had a look at the Tom Ford men’s grooming products. They’re pretty pricey, but the packaging is absolutely gorgeous, and I thought this Tom Ford For Men Exfoliating Energy Scrub (£35) would be both beautiful AND useful – the sort of gift that he might not buy for himself, but would love to receive:
Lastly, a bit of wildcard here, but you know I love a fragrance, and I absolutely love Jo Malone. The classic Lime, Basil and Mandarin scent is beloved by men and women alike. I happen to think that it’s much more suited to men, with the zesty top notes giving way to a much more masculine, green – almost minty – basil, and I think it’s got an old school cologne-type feel that might really appeal to Sam and the fresh, clean scent is perfectly suited to a shampoo (£16). I can’t wait to hear what Sam thinks of this one:
So they’re my choices. I hope Sam’s impressed with my picks. Happy Christmas, buddy! And don’t forget you can still order last minute gifts for the stylish man in your life from John Lewis with next day delivery to arrive in time for Christmas (£6.95 order by 8pm Thursday 22 December).
